Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Whatsup everybody? Just copped a 2000xl with SCSI and 32MB Ram and I don't have a manual so I am having trouble doing the easy things :?

What I am wondering is when I sample from my TT to the 2000xl do I need both plugs to go into the Record Left + Right? I only have one plug basically so I just put it into the left side but then I don't hear anything out of the right side of the headphones I'm using. Is there a way to record it in mono so I got both channels working? (thats what I did on my ASR10)

I will have more questions to come, its rough without the manual

yeah while in the record menu you can choose mono-L in that screen right at the top by moving the jog wheel... the default is stereo.

download that manual at the akai pro website too if you think you will need it.

I will def need it. Another question- So I am trying to sample in mono and when I do it doesn't have any low end. The sample seems far away as well...its hard to explain but when I sampled on my ASR10 just a week ago it sounded perfect (lots of low end and clearness) but this is different. My TT has a built in pre-amp so I don't know what it is either?

that seems odd... the low end should be centered and not on the channel you dont have.

what I suggest is copying the sample exactly as you have it chopped and trimmed, put that on another pad, then go and put the low pass filter on it to cut out the highs... now add that pad into the sequence. that should improve it a bit.

so, you have only the left output on that turn table?

No the TT has both the red and white outputs. I don't know but it doesn't sound full at all. Maybe I need to turn the REC gain up, but when I do the needle running through the grooves is much more noticable and is a distraction from the actual sample.

Another dumb question-

Say I chopped a break (or any other sample for that matter)

How do I assign them to the 16 pads? I can't believe I don't know this one.

you should see it if memory serves me right... in the zone section on the top right you can pick the amount of zones and then there is something that you will see that says something like create program or something along those lines. I cant really remember but I know in the trim section it is there somewhere and it shouldn't be hard to find.

whats the model of your TT?

Ok here are a few thoughts:

Are you sure that you use the PreAmped Outs of your TT (also is there is a switch to set the TT to PreAmped out?? is it swiched to the correct position?)

Whats the connection of your PreAmped TT and what cable do you use (exactly please).

It sound to me like the signal is either not preamped or the connection is not correct (wrong cable can cause a "karaoke" effect so no low end and, depending on the song, much reverb/delay, not focused)

I can't believe you haven't gotten the manual yet if you don't know this ;].

Honestly it's in there better than I can tell you but basically program menu, hit pad, select sample.

yeah do that if you didn't figure out the other thing... I always did it like that because I liked picking my chops.

Thanks for the suggestions man. My TT is the Stanton T.92 USB model. I know it is on the correct preamped position (there is a switch) because if I change it the sound goes down to about half the volume as normal. But I am still wondering why there isn't a low end. I have taken a picture of my cable flow:

First my TT outs -

I then connect those to adaptors that turn into one cable-

And in order to put that single cable into my MPC I have to make it a 1/4th

Technically, you are using the wrong 1/4" plug.
Notice how there are two coming out of the TT, and also two going into the MPC? Why would you want to convert them to only 1?

Since you are sending a stereo signal to a mono input, you are not sending the proper signal to the jack, and it's getting all sorts of garbled.

Try mono plugs, and take each output of the TT into each input of the MPC.

In short, get some RCA-1/4" MONO and try that instead of that frankenstein cable...props on the working with what you got though. Hrmmmm, try it with only one RCA connected to the TT...that might actually work with your cable rig.

Exactly. Thats the way you should go MGStudio and I bet you won't have problems with sampling anymore.

Still dont know how it looks like???

I know earlier someone said their might be a way to work with what I got- what would the setup be?

Also, this setup worked on the ASR10 so I'm confused as to why it won't work here?
