How do you purge out you unused kits/program and samples (specially if you've loaded up a large number of samples) once you're done laying down your track without whiping out the samples that you did use? You can't just delete your kits and purge because all of your samples will be gone. Do you create new kits for the samples you are keeping then purge? Here's why I'm asking...

I recently created a template project file that contains about 7 or 8 different programs full of the sound I like to use the most, I guess you can call them my signature sounds. The sounds range from kicks, claps, different hats, etc. to hits/stabs and other instrument samples. I love the way that all my sounds load up and I can quickly begin to layer samples, build a kits that I'm going to be using for that particular project or just get the creative juices flowing and brain storm with a great selection of sounds. The part that is a pain in the ass is that once I'm done laying down a beat and I've decided what sounds I'm going to keep as part of the project I'm left with a ton of sounds that need to be cleared out before I save the project. What I've been doing is replacing the template kits in each track with a new kit made up of the samples that I'm keeping, I re-assign the samples that I'm keeping to pads and I even have to edit the events that were recorded so that the pad numbers in the recorded events correspond to the correct sample/pad (a lot of the times the samples that I'm keeping that were in my template kits end up on totally different pads in the new kit). After I've re-assigned my samples and edited the events as needed I erase the template kits and purge all the samples that were not being used in the new kits/programs, then I name my new kits/programs and save the project.

It's a lot of clean up work after the music is done and recorded but overall I think having this template load up with all my hand picked sounds has helped my workflow and my creative process; I can work a lot faster this way now that I don't have too keep going back and forth to the load menu and flip through my entire library of sounds. If anyone else works this way what do you do to clean up a large number or unused samples that are assigned to different kits once you've completed a track, beat, song or what ever you do? If there's an easier way to achieve what I'm doing please share. Thanks

Don't know what you're talking about man but if you know a better way to do what I'm trying to do let me know, I'd appreceiate it. I've always loaded samples as needed so using several programs/kits with a lot of samples in each is a new way to work for me. I may be doing it the hard way, I feel like there should be an easier way to get rid of unused programs and samples without having to re-assign samples to pads in new kits and having to edit recorded notes to match the samples in the new kits. Either way I like working with a bunch of preselected sounds, make things a lot faster, the time needed to clean up the unused samples once the track is done is just details.

find an empty pad w/ no samples loaded
enter GPE
tap the empty pad
hold UNDO SEQ
tap the pad whose samples you want to purge
repeat as necessary, blanking pads that you don't want to keep
and then purge once you've cleaned house

Didn't know you could do that, I just go into program mode and hit the pad I want to clear out and then turn the scroll wheel until the pad is clear then move on to the next. The way you expalined sounds faster, I'll give it a try.
