NI MASCHINE - constantly upgrading. (Ver. 1.6)

I don't much care for your gear if the sound is there. It's easy to hate.

Just ordered my Maschine this week! Gotta go and cop some new recods too

that's funny, because I just sold my maschine and bought a mpc2500 and jj os XL

maschine is a sweet piece of kit (harware is really cool, and intuitive with lots of hands on controls, screens...),

but lacks severe features in the midi department, when it comes to sequence external gear.

maschine is a really cool stuff, but IMHO needs to be splitted into different "submaschines".


I'm glad there is someone like JJ to make the mpc still alive and evolving, as for NI maschine.


both are really cool gear, but won't fit everyone's needs.

I cant even tell you how close I was of buying an mpc 2500 SE + JJ OS . The reason I went for maschine in the end, was the price (1/2) and secondly the advantages of computer setup. (Speed + unlimited update possibilities). Im glad theres something for all of us!

The 1.6 update actually addresses this for a lot of hardware since all plugin parameters can be directly automated in the Maschine sequencer, which also applies to any hardware with editor plugins.

Been playing with the maschine for a couple of hours now.. and I honestly think its the best invention music has seen for years. It doesnt feel like a controller at all:

I didnt look at the computer screen at once during my first session with it, and actually my laptop went to sleep at one point and I lost my project (Glad I changed the power saving settings now!)

All I can say is that its great!

To me its still a pretty toy. Just extra gear you dont actuay need for creating music. Why do you have to learn to use a new interface to do the same things you can do via what you're already using (mpc, laptop, etc)?

i dont get how cats buy maschine without researching its feature set surely you should be able to find out if the new device supports the functions you need before you cop it.

shit defo aint a toy the interface is easy to learn yeah i would not recommend using maschine to complement ur setup of mpc cos that just adds extra elements and complicates the work flow.

however if most of your work involves doing stuff in the box and using vsts then sell the mpc and use maschine to replace the functions of th empc and speed the integration with software.

Ok, but you need editor plugins. Maschine still does not support CCs and PCs, neither sysex, to directly control hardware.

(I know CCs and PCs are planned for a forthcoming update, though)

in my case, I'm a gear slut. when my creative mojo is lost, I just... buy gear, configure gear, sell gear...
I don't bash / hate on maschine, I nearly loved it. And I'm pretty sure I'll one day get back to maschine (2.0? with midified and internal audio soundcard...? ) when every little points that were missing for my needs will be there.

I would not call it a 'toy', as it's definitely reliable, intelligent, and really hands-on tool. You do NOT have to learn to use a new interface to do the same things...
but one can imagine, if maschine gets all features we need (or already have with mpcs), that it will become THE ultimate mpc. Think about 100% DAW integration, all the RAM you got and CPU power of your computer, HD space... with a really smart control surface (I'm new to mpc, still discovering my 2500, but I've used lots of controllers, and machine controller is NOT a cheap toy. It's solid, pleasant, and every button and pot is a please to use, smartly laid out, etc.)

so you don't have to switch to maschine, but IMHO, in some months, or 1 or 2 years, maschine will be the great powerful alternative to mpcs for newcomers...
