MPC2500 as a digital recorder

This is just my idea for now.. Let me know if it's doable..

This is my setup:
Ensoniq ASR-10
MPC 2500
PC

We all know that recording to computer depends mainly on the quality of ADC (analog to digital converter) on the soundboard. I only got a Realtek ALC889 sound chip on motherboard, so it's definetly not a professional soundcard. Basically I'm using ASR-10 to do my beats and would like to record it to a computer... but what about MPC?

What if i ran the analog cable from ASR-10's main out not to "line in" in the PC, but to analog "record in" in the MPC and then just sample (record) the analog input. I'm sure MPC 2500 got much better AD converters than my onboard soundcard. Then using USB cable i can just copy the .wav file from MPC to a PC...

Is it doable, what y'all think?

Could work. Just play a bar of 1/8 hi hats so you can easily line your tracks up in your DAW!

well dont buy an mpc for only that....

get an interface instead unless you are already getting the mpc anyways.

DON'T even consider this plan if you're trying to record the individual tracks. But yeah for recording just a stereo mix,, the 2500 (with full ram) will do the trick.

This is exactly what I'm doing!

I sequence all on the 2.5K, play out with the track mutes into a SP303, **** it with resample/FX and then BACK into the MPC in 2-tracks.

That way I can pass the wav to my macbook for Mastering via USB.

I use to have a 12 Channels fireware interface, but this way it's EASIER AND FUNNIER.

I'm trying to avoid using DAW at all. I also plan to sample from MPC into the ASR using analog cables... then just do it the other way around to record into MPC and then send a full stereo mix to the mastering on PC (by USB).

I am curious about one thing though:
MPC can record only using CD quality (44.1, 16 bit) and actually my onboard Realtek ALC889 chip can record using 24bit/44.1/48/88.2 etc.

What would give me higher quality recording (line in, analog to digital recording): MPC (which has probably better A/D converters than my onboard soundcard, but only at 44.1/16bit) or onboard soundcard recording at 44.1/24 bit....

Don't get me wrong, but that's not the correct way to see things here.

It's way more important the quality of A/D convertors and the actual LINE-IN plug/circuitry quality.

Unless your source it's already 24/48K I don't see any advantage in recording at higher bitrate/frequency. You'll got more headroom but there will be aliasing issues also.

If you could get digitally out from the ASR, the MPC can accept coax digital as input. This would preserve the highest quality from source to mastering into the your PC.
