I have all of the programs here you can achieve what you want especially
if your mix is tight going into any one of these programs then there
isnt much that has to be done on the final mastering.

All I do is mix my tracks down very well in Reason then export
to Pro-tools and put the T-RackS plug in on the track and it's a
wrap

Nuendo is very good for mastering also Soundforge and Logic is
good for cleaning up samps and sounds before mastering
knowing how to get the most out of your plugs ins is the key

for free you can't go wrong > i don't own any high price software so i'm sure they do more but you get a load of free FX and it's open source so you can write your own.

everyone should try this out >

Im currently using Adobe Audition, for the sole fact I downloaded it fror free.Im wondering if you can use ProTools without the DigiDesign hardware counterpart.I saw in the heatmakers they had a generic (looked like it)16 track mixing board, but they were running pro tools.Ive been told you cant use protools with out the "dongle"
My otehr question is what do you guys(the proffesional dudes) do in the mixing , and mastering process.

Heres my idea of what goes on, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Mixing:
EQ

Mastering:
compress

is this ALL that happens?
