My beef with a lot of stuff coming out recently is the format of the songs. They start out with a nice sampled beat, enter portamento rising bass tone, crash into a bassline that has absolutely nothing to do with the previous part.

My roommate listens to a lot of the new abrasive annoying shit that they pump out a dime a dozen these days. I love dubstep but I keep a critical ear on it. I prefer the darker chill older stuff.

For me this is what's wrong with a lot of newer tunes coming out of old camps. People seem to have lost their ear for subtle darkness... Apparently to be dark it needs to be as loud and as you rightly say abrasive as possible.

Yea man, dubstep has been kicking around here for years now... back when i was studying music tech, it was a a proper underground movement - for those that really cared for the intricate (and back then then pretty unique) production qualities. and for those that lost it in the early hours on ketamine.

I think it's sacrilegious posting it on here... I'm still not sure what I think about it . . . I like a remix, but there are tunes that you can't touch. Still be interesting to hear what you think if you havent heard it. Its an Adam F and DJ Fresh "Dubstep" (invert those commas) Remix of the Dead Prez classssic - Hip Hop.

Adam F hasn't been good since the early 'Headz days. Fresh has never been good.

If you know just a bit from dub step, like I do, I highly recommend to some studying.
This russian guy, Blasta (check the links below) is awesome. His album "The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quezacotl" contains some serious ish. It's kinda "old" already in the dubstep scene but still sounds very fresh. The first track, Trip 42, isn't even dubstep so you can see the limitations in genre thinking. Blasta is just music.

I recently bought some Ramadanman 12"s. There was this track, I'm sure some of you will like. It's a bit like broken beat or some, just listen to the track and you'll know what's up.

i have to be honest, i am no specialist in dub step music, my nephew listens to it and anything he has played to me totally misses nearly every point of music in my opinion. it has absolutely no funk element at all and i find it impossible to find any groove to dance to it. i also find the noises used to be extremely irritating, too irritating to relax and chill out to. therefore i dont know what i could possibly use this music for. i asked a friend why he liked it and he said for the bass. if i want good bass i listen to bootsy!!
