MPC 500 wont read my samples

Hey guys, im new to this whole MPC thing and just know some freakin basics
yesterday ive copied some samples from the CD of the beat magazine on my MPC but if try to load them into ram i always get the message "unknown file format" on the display.
The samples are in the WAV format and about 1 MB / per sample

Make sure the wave files are 16bit.

And where can I see if my samples are 16 bit or not and how to change if they are not ?

you see that on the property of your files on your computer
they need to be:wav 16 bits 44100hz
you can change that with an audio editor or a converter

Don't forget MPC maid also, http://mpcmaid.sourceforge.net/ - but if you're new to the 500 I'd suggest learning how to do things in the box first, but up to you of course!
