So here's the issue...

Since i bought the 2500, i always had the impression there was some weird static "clicks" sometimes. Recently i started noticing this more, because i've bought my first monitors (and now can hear things that i've never noticed before).

I've recorded a small example of what this "static noise" sounds like:
http://www.mediafire.com/?lvv1e4k2h7n9uj5

Sometimes it does this every 2-3 seconds, sometimes just randomly, and sometimes there's nothing for an hour or two... :?

It's not the cables. I've tried several and they all make no difference. Tried different power cords aswell, different outlets, doesn't help. Not 100% sure on this, but i think it does it aswell when connected via digital output (tried it once and if i remember correctly, it was doing the same thing).

It's annoying as hell when i want to record / track out a beat...

Any ideas, other people with the same experience? Or should i just send it in (i'd rather not, but oh well...)?

there seem to be a couple people complaining about this crackling/static issue now... i'm curious to know if the people getting this have done any modifications [such as replace the LCD screen] or if they're also using SPDIF ins/outs at the time... also if this is happening with both JJOS as well as the AKAI OS on their machines... let's get into the details here to see if we can trace the source of the problem on this forum & hopefully solve it once and for all...

I think it might be related to S/PDIF connections. I think I had this issue, then I just reconnected S/PDIF cable and it seemed to go away... definetly odd.

seance, can you elaborate more on this ground loop issue?

Exactly, i think i've read some other posts about the same issue aswell... i just couldn't find them anymore when i made this thread.

For me the SPDIF connection didn't change a thing. Meaning i got the crackling/static issue with analogue and digital connection. I haven't tried JJOS (i know i know, shame on me), but i will give it a try and report back with the results (i doubt it's the OS that's causing this however).

I haven't modified a single thing on my MPC. It's a 2500SE and it had this issue right out of the box. Also, i never carry it anywhere, it sits in my apartment 24/7 in good room/air/humidity conditions.

@séance
Could you elaborate a little more on the ground loop issue... is this something that could be fixed somehow?

Here's the huge thread that's already covered this in-depth: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=117223

I've had this same problem with two different 2500's, using different combination's of OS's, different brands of the RAM including the Akai version, different electrical sockets, different power cords, and different LCD screens. Nothing made it go away completely. It seems to be a problem with Akai's poor quality main out board, plain and simple.

thanks for the link to that topic... the conclusion in that thread seemed to be that the static problem comes from using the MPC's internal effects... is anyone here experiencing the static/popping issue WITHOUT using any of the effects at the time? i'm curious to know if that's really the source of the issue here...

Having the effects on or off made no difference in either of my 2500's with the static problem, so I don't think that can be considered the consensus.

Personally I used a 1000 from 2003 to this year, and I never had a single problem with it except the original faulty pad design, which I replaced with the new design later. The thing that gets me is that some of us once thought this static 2500 problem was from a bad batch years ago but people are still reporting the problem with the brand new 2500SE that's being sold overseas, so something has to be inherently faulty in the 2500 main cpu design.

knowing how AKAI operates these days... the MPC2500SE and LE are probably just all the returned/used mpc2500's they received in the past from angry customers... and all they did was give them a new casing and screen in order to boost the price and pass them off as a new product.

Crossings, I honestly think that might be a legit theory, because Akai were aware of the problem based on some users customer support reply emails.

The only good thing I can say is that the other Akai products I own have never had any problems or issues (knock on wood), and I do own a lot from them including the:

APC40
MPK25
Synthstation25
Miniak
LPK25
MPC 60II

OK, so we all know it's there... I think I got this "strange cracks" yesterday after a few hours of MPC2500SE turned on.

Has anyone successfully exchanged their MPC2500SE for a model which is perfectly good? I still got my warranty, but i fear that all other models right now can have the same issues....

With my Mpc 5000 bought 2 years ago has that phantom static at all levels. its just quieter when i turn the interface down. the sound is coming from the stereo output right/left. the static even comes from the 8 analog outs just by hooking up the TrS cables and no sound sent through them. When i unplug the cables from the MPC the static and crackling sounds r gone. It has to be a curcuit board issue, because just hooking up the cables to the Mpc starts the static. Oh it also gets recorded on anything u send ur tracks to ie. protools and logic 9. its such a pain i dont even use the MPC anymore. it sucks i love the thing. I also have the MPC 5000 powered through a monster power pack which filters power line harmonics ( 60 hz static etc.)
