why is the mpc2000xl called mpc2000xl?

why is the mpc2000xl called mpc2000xl?

and why did the former model " mpc 3000 " have that name when it was made before mpc2000?:?:

I would venture an educated guess that since the MPC 2000XL is based on the MPC 2000 architecture, its basically an upgrade of that model.
the MPC 2000 is "less advaced" then the MPC 3000, so hence the MPC 2000.
the additions to the MPC 2000 make it more "advanced" then the MPC 3000 still its based on the architecture of the MPC 2000, so MPC 2000XL.

this is just a guess, but it seems to make sense. this would also explain why the MPC 4000 is called that and not, "MPC 2000XL super" or "MPC 3000XL" cuz the 4000 has an all new architecture creating an all new model.

kinda how we have the "Civic LX" "Civic EX" (ie mpc 2000, MPC 2000XL) and then the "accord" (Mpc 3000) etc. etc. different models based on different designs.

still a guess, does anyone know? I'm all curious now.....

Maybe it has something to do with Roger Linn joint venture.. or maybe because the 2000 was being released closer to the year 2000 they decided to call it that.. I've always wondered myself.

Some of the naming convention come from the S-series names.

MPC3000 used S3000 hardware.
MPC2000 used S2000 hardware.

Strange since the architecture is essentially the same between the two models. They share most of the same parts.

how do you explain the mpc 4000 then? there is no S4000 is there? I think it has more to do with the architecture of the MPC series more then them being based on the S series.

What exactly do you mean by architecture?

The hardware of the MPC2000 is the same hardware in the S2000, just a different operating system. Same goes for the MPC3000 and S3000.
