Currently i got 1G external SCSI hard disk which is very noisy. I'm planning to replace it either with external SCSI CF card reader or SSD SCSI drive from scsiforsamplers company.

Which is better -- CF card reader or SSD? I assume both are silent but which is more reliable, faster, will last longer...

Compact flash cards and solid state drives use the same technology (flash memory), so theoretically they have the same reliability and speed. I think that an external CF card reader would be better, because you can switch CF cards anytime and if a CF card goes bad, you can just replace it with a working one.

ok next question -- I want to use my MPC2500 as a midi controller for drums in ASR-10. I know that I need to connect midi out from MPC to midi in (ASR-10).

What I need to set on the ASR-10 to trigger ASR-10 drums sounds on MPC pads?

Grublet -- I don't want to use MPC's sequencer.. all I want is to trigger the drum sounds stored on ASR with MPC pads.. So i assume i need only one midi cable, midi out from MPC to midi in in ASR..

Do i still need to set "soft through" to off on MPC? and "omni to multi" on ASR?

OK, the simplest way to do this is this (assuming you only want to trigger ASR sounds):

MPC midi out (A) --> ASR midi in (midi cable)
Load your drums instrument in ASR
MPC -- select unused track, change Type to midi, Pgm: off and Midi: 1A
Now you have 64 pads triggering your ASR drums -- beautiful, isn't it?

You don't even have to set midi in type to multi on ASR...

you're almost there. now get it to control all 8 instruments at once on channels 1-8 midi

At once? what you mean? I am controlling now what i select in ASR (intruments/sequence tracks).

anybody rockin a 88 key asr-10? seen one today at a pawn shop probably can get it for $600.00 but I can also get an asr x pro for 200.00. are they basically the same or what?

If its clean, IE not really ugly... then its a decent price.

But have you checked eBay lately? cheeeeeeeeaap.

I just couldn't imagine tapping drums on weighted keys.... Plus its HUGE and HEAVY

BUT

If its the blue screen, then get it... just for cool factor alone.

Next question -- what is the format of ASR-10's disktracks (audio tracks recorded to scsi disk drive). Is it a normal PCM Wave file so i can edit in any DAW?

Or maybe Translator can make a standard wav from it?
