For real, is the MPC5000 worth it if you have a 2500?

I am seeing good prices for MPC5000, and have had a MPC2500 since 2006. So I've found out the hard way that Akai bugs can kill work, and the programmers don't seem to care when something blatantly doesn't work. I like the 8 track hard disk recording, midi note editing and bigger screen. Is it really worth it though? Am I going to find a whole new bunch of bugs (like the 2500 was before 1.24).

No need to write a book, just a thumbs up or down on buying a 5000 when I have and love the 2500.

I never fkd with a 5000 but if I had to get another MPC, I'd get a 2500 + JJOS or a 4000.

Yes. It is worth it. Mpc- best pads you can buy. 5k -synth, appregiator, q-links , latching functions.= best master controller in the business period. ONLY mpc with all that in one unit. F-what people say. Ever trigger a moog with a 5k and latch pads with the appregiator? Or any external synth.?.. try it with a 2500 with jjos CANT try with a 4k CANT.

Its worth but then again no...There is a few known issues with these units...I mean you might get a good one but who is to say you drop some dollas on a 5000 and it doesnt do what you need it to do when you could have just stuck with the 2500 nah mean? But how much are you getting the 5000 for if youre getting it for around a 1000 I would say go for it...but just make sure that the unit you get has no problems...

well have you considered the JJOS if you are currently still on the akai OS then maybe you might find some features you could use with the machine you already have... that may save quite a lot of cash.

mr_debauch, I purchased JJOS 1 a few years ago but for no real reason ended up sticking with Akai OS when 1.24 came out. Reading the MPC5000 manual, it seems like a good decision because the 5000 is so obviously Akai OS with extra features. I won't have to think in any way different if I upgrade - but the OS XL just doesn't make sense to me without a good read. You're right of course, I have been missing out on 8 audio tracks in JJOS on the 2500. And I have to think if the extra features are worth the money to get a 5000. But I do like the number of positive responses too!

well get to work man, you know how it is with mpcs... you see one for sale and you feel compelled to get it, then you start thinking up reasons of why you need it and how to justify spending the cash on it. hahaha.

Very Very tempting... How much are the improvements worth it to me?

Extra polyphony - not important
VA synth - not important
Big screen - nice but people actually made music on a 2000XL and didn't complain
Quiet data wheel - the American Express ads woud say 'priceless'
Piano roll - this one is very useful to me
Hard disk recording - its limited but I could use it
Effects 4 busses with 2 fx each - hell yes

If you already have an MPC (any model), then there is really no reason to get another model. If you want an MPC 5000 to replace your MPC 2500, I believe it is worth it. You will gain more powerful functions than you would lose regardless of which OS you have running in your 2500. There are numerous threads with the details.

Hell, he has a point...I own a 5000 so I co-sign, I used to have a 2500, 2500 is garbage

You're right of course. When I finished the list the 2500, there's not a lot I don't already have. I also forgot to mention the plastic surface of the 5000, but that's not an improvement
