Okay, my buddys are in a "band". I say "band" because its all just for fun, just get together and play. Maybe one day will start recording or something but right now its all just for fun.

They got 2 guitarists, drummer, and keyboard. Sometimes one of the guitar players will play bass instead. But they are wanting me to get Turntables. I'm also wanting to get maybe a MPD or MPC as well.

But my question really is, what can I do with an MPD and turntables with rock music? I really have no idea, I'm new to all this. Always been a huge hip hop fan and very interested in it all, just never actually owned any equipment, but I have always wanted too so I'm pretty excited. Will def do some hip hop stuff too on my free time. But I'm just trying to figure out pretty much what the MPD could do when it comes to just playing some rock music with some buddys.

Thanks guys

linkin park uses an mpc in some of thier live sets, thats the only band that really comes to mind for me.

you would use it to trigger samples, but your standard rock song doesnt really use any usually. maybe you could have some songs where you play the mpc drums instead of the drummer.

use your imagination.

an MPD and an MPC are very different things

an MPD is just a controller for software on your computer, it's useless on its own. it has no builtin sounds, no sequencer, nothing except buttons and controls for talking to software on your computer

so with a turntable and an MPD you'll be able to play records, the MPD will be useless

an MPC is a standalone instrument which stores samples onboard and has its own sequencer

with a turntable and an MPC you'll be able to sample from records and turn those into new pieces of music (you don't even need the turntable, you can sample from any source).

to do that with an MPD you'd need a computer as well, and you wouldn't actually need the MPD, it's just an alternative to doing everything with the mouse and keyboard

the mpd is a midi controller
you can also use it to trigger samples from rack samplers like the akai s-samplers (s900, s950, s1000, s2000, s3000, etc...) or any other instrument with a midi in socket
but it's useless with a turntable
you can't hook a turntable to the mpd

actually, also if you do wind up getting an mpc or what ever and you are trying to get some perspective on what exactly you can do and where you could fit in... rather then shit music like linkin park, you could take a look at acoustic hip hop bands such as the roots and also take a peak at some acid jazz groups. you dont have to stick to one genre, you can make some sort of hybrid fusion too... what ever sounds good.
