Real is Real. Autochopping is overrated. It is a plus but it shouldn`t be a deciding factor on which gear to get. If one has a good tutorial on chopping one may decide to do without it just the manually way.

Like Easy Mo Bee and said Auto chop it cool but it up to you.

Stop with the tutorials already.

This is a comparison thread. Everytime you run out of things to say, you post these lame videos that we have all seen numerous times across the forums.

Auto-chop is an essential function in every modern sampler since 1999 as well as several other sample editing tools. So it is a deciding factor. Why buy a new sampler today if it doesn't have current technology? Your entire argument is silly. Why even buy Maschine when you can do everything with a 10 year old MPC using work-arounds with products most of us already own..... :P Anyway...Maschine DOES HAVE auto-chop so not sure why you keep bringing it up. But it doesn't have the non-destructive chopping style seen in the ASR-10 and JJ OS.

Again...enough with the tutorials.....back to the comparison...

Q: Does MASCHINE replace BATTERY?
A: No. MASCHINE and BATTERY are different tools for different applications. BATTERY is a dedicated percussion sampler with extensive sound shaping and mapping functions for complex drum kits, and does not integrate sequencing. The sample engine in MASCHINE is much more streamlined and focuses on the integration with its sequencer and hardware controller, as well as on real-time audio recording and sound manipulation functions.

Maschine users in the NI Forums have been flooding NI with requests to give Maschine the sound shaping tools of Battery. Instead, they are giving us VSTi support...in an effort to sell us more of their products for one. Its cool...as a business man, I would probably have done the same thing. But the lane is still open for another company (perhaps Akai or Roland) to develop a competing product that will give users that sound shaping tools of an MPC or MV.

Auto chop isn't essential for beat making. Point of the videos is that it is lame to keep crying over auto chop like you can't make a beat without it. Maybe Jah can't without it. Talk is cheap anyone can see the proof in the videos auto chop did not invent hip hop beats and despite all the salesmanship to sell the public to buy more gear it isn't essential technology if you know what you are doing.

These are basic chopping techniques Pete, 9th, Blaze, Premo and the most use not workarounds so Jah can stop the misinforming the readers like JJ OS or auto chop is the greatest feature for beat making.

Your ears and know how is what essential and choose the tool you are understand like the back of your hand.

while I agree it may be an expected function.... I really dont like autochop at all. I find it cheap.

it looks **** stupid chopping a loop and then to make it appear like you're playing something you push the pads in order. lame.

Auto-Chop is cool when you want to experiment and unexpected things happen. Thats the only reason why I mess with it. The MV Auto-Chops but at least you can adjust the start and end points to your satisfaction after the operation is done, which really makes chopping manually quicker.

Most of the time I manually chop samples, it just feels like forging my own signature sound.

The problem with Auto Chop is that too many people depend on it and the result is just way too many beats that sound "same-y". A perfectly mathmatical sample chop of some strings over a beyond-basic drum pattern is a quick way to bore me to tears. Does that formula sound familiar?

Maschine isn't essential for making music based upon Blue Haze's logic.

What is the argument here? Autochop? All samplers released today (to include MPCs and Maschine) has autochop. So is the argument here to remove it from these samplers?

What I have been talking about is the JJ OS style of chopping which is similar to the ASR-10. Auto-chop is something completely different. JJ OS and ASR allows you to non-destructively chop samples. The key to this function is that it doesn't use extra memory:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irb335ThCdo

That video of Kanye in the studio just gives you quick idea of what I am talking about (don't care about what you think of him personally...he is more relevant today than any of the producers mentioned). It is not a tutorial.

ASR-10 was near perfect when chopping. You can assign the same sample to as many keys as you like and then freely adjust the start/end points of each sample. The key here is that whether you assign the sample to one key or 61 keys, you are not using any extra memory...no extra load/saving time.

Due to overwhelming requests from this forum, JJ incorporated this into his OS. Using the JJ OS chopping, you dial in the specific number of segments you want the sample to be chopped into. If you want the sample chopped into 7 parts..simply turn the data wheel to the number 7..and instantly, the sample is chopped and assigned to pads #1 thru 7. If you decide that you want to subsequently chop the sample into 16 parts, just turn the data wheel...and the sample is chopped accordingly and assigned to pads #1-16. Then..you can hit any pad and start adjusting the start/end points without impacting the adjacent pads..all of this without using any additional memory. No copying and pasting like the way we must do with other samplers.

If you guys can't appreciate this...don't really care. The most active users in these forums are JJ OS users...and they appreciate this function. Many of us are petitioning NI to incorporate this function into Maschine. It may or may not every happen. But until it happens, I see no need to give up my MPC for Maschine. OS 1.6 gives me hope because it does add features that I have asked for....features that NI initially said Maschine wasn't designed to do....and features that so-called Maschine experts told us to stop wasting our time and use it as is.... Us users get the last laugh. Design a product that we want/need and not what you think we need. Its a basic principle of supply and demand.

This feature request is not a need nor have I ever wrote you cannot do music without this function. It is certainly a want and it makes chopping fast, fun, and you can immediately start making music. I have to stress that I have never said you can't live or make music. Blue Haze's entire argument is silly and misleading. Why? Because if you can do everything with an MPC using old methods of production, there is no need for an MPC vs Maschine thread. There would be no need for a JJ OS. There would be no need for any new technology in music products since artists have been making good music without these new tools. Hello....come up with a better argument next time.

Back to the topic of this thread...which is MPC versus Maschine...not a tutorial..and not a platform to make unfounded assumptions and misleading BS.

Talk to yall later...my new young chick wants me to buy her Reeboks....

Son you ain`t got to lie to kick it. Quote Autochopping isn`t essential for hip hop beatmaking. Autochop is actually for timeslicing.

Anyway ASR-10 for ya.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShCTLJm5UXc Copies aren`t extra memory duh!!!

Kanye is doing it still the RZA and Premo way so what is new. Manually chopping no autochop get it.

What we appreciate are great beats. Not lame excuse and crying about why a gear won`t work when you can`t even use what you have now jah.

Ill sample based beatmaking doesn`t take alot of parameters and features it. It takes understanding your gear and great ears to find the part you want to build on whatever gear you use. Actually it starts on the turntable or CD player you are spinning if you can get it right there you are on your way just sample in the parts you need and truncate is one way.

Can't understand why you insist on spewing garbage. "Auto-chop" has not nor ever been an issue in this thread. Since you are slow, I will repeat myself. Maschine has "autochop." The MPC 4000 has "autochop." What is the debate? In fact, every MPC since the 2000XL has "autochop." If you are talking about "autochop" as in a sampler analyzing a sample and slice according to the transients in the audio...then the MPC 4000 doesn't have this, no matter what name you want to call it. However, Maschine has this function as well as the MPC 1000, 2500, and 5000. This is fact and not a debate. This is a function THAT I NEVER USE nor have I ever suggested anyone use this. But it is a standard feature on all modern samplers....and made popular my Propellerhead's Recycle...which by the way was a big thing for MPC 4000 users since it didn't have this way of "auto chopping." This is not a debate or argument anyone is making. Stop trying to confuse the 1 or 2 people still reading this thread.

What Kanye is doing IS NOT what Rza and Premo is doing as shown in the video I posted. The samplers RZA claims he uses (MV-8800) and Premo (MPC 60 and S950) DO NOT operate the same way as the ASR-10 that Kanye is using to the best of my knowledge. If you have proof to the contrary, please post it. Fact: The MV 8800 (and my Fantom G) allow you to "manually" add/or delete slice markers for chopping. Maschine has a way of doing this but not as efficient. The MPC 4000 cannot do this unless you incorporate Recyle or another piece of software. There are numerous requests in the NI forum for this function.

To achieve the JJ OS and ASR type of nondestructive chopping (which is different than the "auto-chop" or whatever you want to call it), Maschine users have to duplicate and paste sounds to each pad. This takes up memory as it utilizes the limited number of sound slots. Then you "manually" edit the start/end points of each sample as a way of achieving a chopped sample. Using the MPC 4000, you have to copy a sample numerous times and assign the copies to pads. Then you proceed the same way as Maschine as mentioned above. This takes up memory/time available for sampling and also takes up the number of samples allowed in memory. The ASR-10 and MPC 1000/2500 running the JJ OS DO NOT have this limitation. You are struggling with this concept because you don't own these products, don't understand the concept, and have very little experience with these products. Please see the MPC 1000/2500 JJ OS Forum. They are numerous novice and experienced users that can explain this concept to you.

I have never claimed a piece of equipment is useless for making music so stop with the lies. Please stop being jealous because I purchase hardware anytime I see fit...hardware you can't afford and/or choose not to buy for any given reason. This is not relevant to this discussion nor open for debate. What is also not relevant is your lame tutorials.

Again, this is the MPC versus Maschine thread in the comparison forum. I shouldn't have to remind you to stick to the topic. This is the only thread where forum members can talk about MPC versus Maschine. You are messing up the thread posting useless tutorials that belong in other parts of this forum..and have already been posted at least a dozen times. What you are talking about has nothing to do with an MPC versus Maschine. But this what you do every time you lose a debate..change the subject.

So stop talking about "auto-chopping" because both Maschine and the MPC 4000 has this feature...but the MPC 4000 can't analyze transients without using Aksys/Recyle-type product. Maschine nor the MPC 4000 can chop like the ASR-10 or the JJ OS. Fact.

why is non destructive chopping so important?
especially when most computers running maschine will be fitted with at least 2gb of RAM.

what is the issue

J no one is jealous of how much money you spend on gear.
you are acting like a child who has the biggest bag of candy on the playground.
grow up you are nothing but a GOLEM.

Non-destructive chopping as implemented in the MPC 2500/1000 JJ OS (inspired by ASR-10) is much faster. No copying, duplicating, and pasting anything. Just turning it on instantly chops in equal increments/regions and assigns to pads. Editing slices does not effect other slices as you get with other samplers. Then you "manually" adjust the start and end points of each slice. The value added that it saves memory is a bonus. Read through all the stuff that is not relevant in this thread to get to the benefits of non-destructive chopping or simply visit the Akai MPC 2500/1000 JJ OS Forum for further details (http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/ndc.htm). Or visit http://www.native-instruments.com/forum ... p?t=109583.

As far as your other comments...if you read through the threads, you will see that some individuals are in fact jealous/envy that I still own, use, and buy hardware in this software driven world. This is why they keep bringing what I use up. I have never initiated talk about what I can afford or what others can't. I only talk about products I own/use regardless of whether others catch feelings about my purchases...which is a little weird when they do.

I don't feel a need to insult you...been there and done that years ago.

I think it is common knowledge even for a golem like Jah that kanye studied Rza style including using the ASR-10 that Rza made 36 chambers, tical and other wu bangers in the 90s.

Anyway the video doesn't lie just Jah as the silliness over this auto chop is nonessential for making a beat.

No one cares what a drama queen owns or collect we care about making beats and understanding how to improve our production. Choosing the right gear is about individual workflow and comfort that understanding ones needs.

Any user reading the thread can see great music being made on all kinds of gears each producer making beats not crying over auto chop like Jah does now that he is trying to change his tune claiming is isn't important anymore ha, ha, ha. Go make a beat son or run away like you always do.
