Wiring MPC to hardware and DAW

Hi Everyone,

I have some synth, MacBook Pro and MPC1000JJOS.
I want to hook up those thogether in the most logical way.
I really don't have any experience on this, so I really need an advice from proffessionals.

This is what I have:
- Roland JP 8080 (rack synth)
- Korg MS2000R (rack synth)
- Korg Electribe EM1
- Novation super bass station (rack synth)
- Korg X50 synth
- MPC 1000 JJOS
- MacBook Pro (with Ableton)
- mixer
- Korg Kaos pad3

So this is what I have to hook up. (I know I need a soundcard too)
I really appreciate any advice.

because before that, I didn' had a good computer for making music so I never use it.
I used the MPC as a sequencer to drive my synths and it worked fine.
Since I've got the MacBook I have to move on and it's not that simple to get everything work and can record and get MIDI clock, etc....

maybe an audio interface with multiple inputs for all your gear (or a two channel audio interface plus mixer or patchbay). you'll want midi as well, so get an audio interface with midi.

Yes that's what I need. It's just so many out there, I really dont know which one is best for me.

lol i'd probably agree except half that stuff in his list is old... He either had it for a minute or he went on an ebay spree. Either way, having all that and having no clue is hilarious...

same thing happened to marshall jefferson. he walked into a music store in chicago in 1986, walked out with a big pile of roland gear he had no idea about. his mates couldn''t stop laughing at him.
two week later, he started a new genre of music.

well...maybe....or maybe I've got some gear a friend of mine who passad away. (I didn't sell it)
But anyway, abowe you I had some advice and kept searching so I'm doin' OK now.

Yes I'm a musician. I have musicl experience but In never worked with daw.
But like I said I keep searching, getting more informed so I'll be fine.
I was just asking how to built the Mac into the system. It's not that simple, for exaple there are 1000 of iterface-s but because the MacBook Pro has firewire I should look for those(not usb), and so on....
Those advice what I was looking for.

It's funny, but I'm not that type. I wish! to walk to the store and get a big pile of gear.

I hear you but the concepts are the same with DAWs. Audio in audio out. MIDI in MIDI out. Same as your MPC. Sounds like you're putting up your own roadblock.

And they all do the same exact thing (aside from operational differences and some bells and whistles here and there).

Not necessarily. The real questions are:

1. how many simultaneous audio inputs and outputs do you want?
2. how many MIDI inputs and outputs do you want?
3. Do you want your soundcard to have a built in mixer?
4. Do you want any extra bells and whistles? If so, which ones?

Nobody can answer these questions except you. Because none of us knows how YOU WANT to have it all configured.

For example, do you want to use your DAW as the centerpiece and control everything from there, or do you want to continue making your beats on your hardware and then just transfer them to your DAW for mixing?

Yes I totally understand what you said.
It's allways different to write it down (specially in not my mother language) than if you're sitting next to me in front of those gear and ask questions from you. It's allways hard how can I ask my "problems".
But some people did understand my question and they gave advice what should I do, what should I buy. Of course like I said I doing my research too, it's not like I'm waiting the holly answers from here, I just wanted to hear opinion from here too, that's all. What you wrote down on your last comment, that helps too.

back to the topic (and trying to answer your questions):
I had 1 synth first. I coudn't play in my guitar plus a synth too when I had some ideas, so that's why I was looking for a sequencer. Got I little research (back than) and find out the MPC is a solution for that. Got more research and find out how cool is that little machine. Start sample some synth, drums, etc..(never from vinyl...but I really interested ), so I didn't even had to carry my synth to reherseal, just that little black box. And got more more ideas to the MPC, but without DAW system I just started collecting ideas on the memory card, so I had to have a DAW. I got a MacBook Pro from my brother (ridiculous price) and start to search the best value/price solution to built the "home studio". That's where I am.
Even I start to learn Ableton Live (I'm getting pretty good ) I still turn the MPC on and making ideas and as a hardware, the MPC is what I want to carry to concerts, reherseal but to put up the whole song at home I want to use DAW, because the monitor, effects, internal instruments, etc.
I want that system work flawlessly, not "plug in this, get that out, connect that, take those out..." every time when I want to use my mpc or my Mac.
