MOTU interfaces with Logic?

just trying to moniter my MPC in Logic through the interface but I can't

I got the Firewire hooked up and the inputs

I can see the interface is receiving info but I can't hear anything? through Logic or the phones on the interface

I'm trying all types of settings and configurations in Logic > Preferences > Audio - can't hear anything

can someone shed some light? all I read about is how "no problems! they work together perfect!

so, audio chain IN is fine.
but no OUT.

try working backwards in that signal chain. once you're happy with all your physical connections. start from the output setting on the channel strip. what is it set to?
then i guess the core audio/audio preferences panel would be next.

could drivers be an issue?

When you turn on your interface(soundcard) a box will come up called motu audio setup.Go to motu 828 box,not general.Make sure phones assign is set to main out.Also main out assign.The volume knob on the interface can be pressed in to tog between phones and main.Turn it up.On logic choose preferances and audio and motu interface then on an audio track under io choose the line in your using.Use the trim on the input on the mixer to boost the signal.Good luck.

How familiar are u with Logic?

I'm gonna break it down so you guys can maybe catch my errors
as of now, all I wanna do is get the drums from my MPC into Logic 9
currently I can hear my computer, iTunes, etc. through my speakers (I'm assuming because of the firewire cable?)


- Firewire on 828 >> Firewire on Mac

- using 1/4 in. TRS cables...... mpc STEREO OUT >> 828 INPUT 1 & 2

(should there be TRS cables going from OUTPUT 1 & 2 to somwhere? I have them going to the amp)

- mic cables from amp (connected to speakers) >> MONITER IN jacks on 828

why is the core audio greyed out?


when do I incorporate my MOTU Midi Timepiece in the equation? this isn't needed for getting audio in also is it?



when I analyze everything is just doesn't seem right sometimes, I gotta be screwin up somwhere

and like I stated before... I'm worried because I can see the 828 is getting the audio when I press play on the MPC
but when I plug in headphones I can't hear? is that normal? I turned the headphone vol. up

and something else that bothers me is when I look at the 828 in the Audio Setup on my Mac
as you can see in the pic, the default is greyed out and all the volume knobs for the analog channels are down and I can't move any of them...

Try, in logic, choosing input 3-4. That's the way I do it in my ultralite, but from what I see, in images, 1-2 suppose to be correct. Mm, have you gone through the pages in the mixer inside of your 828 and make sure the level is up? I'm not by my ultralite but tomorrow I will tell you which page it is. I'm not sure if it's the mixer page, but it's a page where your turn up the db of each input. I remember having it all the way down and having the same problem as you.

Have you ever monitored a sound through the inputs and through the the phones/outputs?Best to close logic for now and just work on the motu!!!Its basically a digital mixer with most of the controls on the software mixer,right?On page 2 of the mixer(mixes)The first two sliders should be up.On bus 1 choose main out 1 and 2.BTW on my ultralight input 1 and 2 are the xlr type.Im thingking at this point you should hear something (i use direct monitoring when using software)

yea I think that's what I was trying to do...

when I play the MPC, I can see the input going up and down on the MOTU front

but then I plug in headphones and I can't hear anything? I turned the volume up and everything

is this a faulty piece of equipment or something?

what about the question I had about the OUTPUT from the Motu? is it correct that it should be going to my amp?

nobody has anything to say about the last picture I posted? I figure this might be a major problem
the fact that I look @ the MOTU on my Mac and all the sound is down and I can't even turn it up?

I'm ready to flowers throw this thing out the window!!!! it's been weeks now and I have no desire to even make beats anymore this chit is draining me mentally...

I don't know what to do.... should I just hawk this crap again and get something else? whats the easiest interface for a Mac? all the research I did and they said THIS ONE was the most equipped and easy for Mac.... YEA RIGHT

where do you find the screen (last picture)?I cant see it on mine.On the screen of the soundcard,the top line audio bars show the input and the bottom bars the output.Can you see any activity on the bottom bar?If not you will not hear anything.Have you down loaded the right most recent drivers and q mix fx mixer for your model soundcard?Its worth loading it again.On the cue mix fx mixer there is a graph show all input and out ect metering.I though mine was broken also when i first got it LOL.

nope, I can't see anything on the OUTPUT bar - which is good? because I guess that might be the problem?
where should the TRS cables coming from the OUTPUT be going into? I have no idea

Have you downloaded the most recent drivers and q-mix fx mixer for your model soundcard?

yup, I updated to the latest drivers for Snow Leopard + downloaded CueMix FX

where do you find the screen? (last picture) I can't see it on mine.

it's located in the AUDIO MIDI SETUP in Mac OS X... it might be in System Preferences
if not just search A.M.S. and you'll see it... the icon is a little midi keyboard

Ok,i just think its gotta be the mixes page on the cuemix fx mixer.Youve got INPUTS MIXES OUTPUTS ok?Choose MIXES and under 1-2 put the slider up and make sure its not muted!!!Then go along to bus 1 and choose main out 1-2 and make sure its up and not muted.Now you should have some output.Also choose main out 1-2 in the a-m-s (not analog).Hows that?Out put 1-2 trs should go to the inputs of you amp/monitors.

helll yea it worked! you were right... on the CueMix the Analog 1-2 was muted

so now I can hear it! man thanks so much, I can't even explain the gratitude I have



sorry to keep throwing questions at you, but how do I get the audio into Logic now?

I read that instead of monitering in Logic, I should moniter in CueMix?

because direct monitering eliminates latency?

also do I have to now sync up my MPC with my Midi Timpiece to get the audio in as well?

Best place to go with those questions is the MOTU forum, search for it.

I had a MOTU interface (2408) with cuemix, what a confusing piece of software!!

I just used the interface for I/O and monitoring, don't allow the 'bells & whistles' to distract you...

I'm not really asking specifically how to do something, just kinda looking for advice on the next step
