Hi All,

I want to install a SATA Hard Drive in my MPC5000. I know it is possible by various posts but I am having trouble. All the IDE to SATA Converter cables I've seen seem to large because of where it needs to be installed on the board. There just doesn't seem to be room to install it with the other board right above it. I have marked a red check mark that indicates the second board above the bottom board.

Could someone that has successfully installed a SATA drive in the MPC5000 lend some expertise please? The exact make and model of the converter cable would be a huge help. Thank you very much everyone for their time.

Thanks again pest1320. Unfortunately I haven't got the MPC5000 to work with a SATA drive.

I am getting this error message. Error: No device present (HD).

I purchased the same converter adapter that you purchased on eBay albeit from a different seller.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... MEBOFFX:IT

I used a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA HD 7200 RPM with 32MB Cache. Model: WD5002AALX-00J37A0

I am quite certain I have everything hooked up correctly. When the MPC5000 boots up it goes through it's normal routine. Then when I go to format the HD it gives me the error. Error: No device present (HD).

I have checked that all cables are securely fastened.

Did you have any of these problems at first?

Thanks in advance pest1320. Really appreciate the help.

I would try pre-formatting on a PC first (or do a ZERO out of the HD)..

Most HD's have SOME info already on them (partitions) (software) etc.

If you format first on a computer... it may read it then.

Yeah man,
I have this 5k and i have tried everything even the same exact combo i used on my older 5k unit that worked with a 1tb seagate and the wd 640Gb,still giving me error codes.i tried 5 diff. drives and 3 ide to sata converters.
reformatted, zeroed out,etc etc, on my dual boot hack same errors formatted with mac or pc.
I thro the 80Gb ide back in it and it works perfect so i know not cables or pcb board connections.
I tried WD5001AALS,WD6401AALS (worked on my last mpc 5k), st3500641as-rk,st905003n1a1as-rk,wcav9j797454 non worked on this unit maybe got 3 bunk ide to sata converters? highly doubt it but....
some Hd is not recconized and some state invalid FS on hd and some other codes i should of wrote down.
idunno.

Hi pest1320,

I've also tried a bunch of drives, 5 IDE to SATA converters and still nothing but errors. Has anyone else been successful at getting a SATA drive to work in the MPC5000? I'll keep trying and report back if there is success. Thanks.
