Why are rappers so cheap?

lol, i had a dude once that hit me up offing me all these "deals" to spit over one of my beats. I was like "deals? how much you try'n to charge me?" Dude was like "800.00 for 3 verses and sum choruses" I was like "800.00!! thats my months rent homie" hahaha talk about tryin to cash out. and of all people it was copywrite. I looked up to that dude..lol

Spot on about the stereo types this is the majority of what I come across, though it's all good long as they're willing to pay.

For real. Did you forget the dream or did you always want to churn out beats just for the cash. Find the guru, snoop dogg, rakim. It's about the props and culture. If you focus on what's important the cash will come.

(1) The game is over flooded.
(2) Too many are giving beats away for free.
(3) Too many sites make it easy for rappers to simply record beats.
(4) Free, easy to use software allows anyone to loop beats.
(5) Anyone can make beats, even without knowing how to ..make beats!
(6) Copy and paste the same "love you beats" message to 100 different producers, and one of em will bite.

But the main reason rappers are so cheap is because no one is making any money! Realistically, how can someone buy a beat when they can't sell a cd? Only the serious "rappers" (I hate that word) that consider this a business will buy beats. Even without relying on cd sales, they can make money off shows.
If I was you, I would only focus on business minded people, or make yourself a #1 priority! Come out with your own project and keep your material. 10 times out of 10, these internet rapper dudes won't have any money!

If you are serious about becoming a paid producer at some stage it's more than likely that you will need EXPOSURE.

A 'free' beat that is uploaded and heard by 5,000 people has 'economic value' in terms of the exposure it creates, name & style recognition, fanbase development and so forth. It also place your music in front of the people pulling the strings in today's music industry. They all watch YouTube nowadays looking for new acts and producers.

Find an artist you believe in and try to 'break' that artist, work with them to develop their style, their image, their debut album. If they make it, you make it (you did sign a contract right?) or at least qualify for some reimbursement for all your hard work.

Just don't expect to be pulling in fat cheques from the outset, it won't happen.

Protect your music, songwriting and publishing rights and get your music off the hard drive dammit!!
