
Hmmm... okay, well first of all, the turntable is really only used when you want to grab some vinyl samples. At least that's all I use the old phonograph for. So connect the turntable to your mixer, and then connect the mixer's outs to the MPC's 'RECORD IN' inputs. Hook it up whenever you feel like diggin' thru your crates.
Now the midi connections are a bit more tricky... But contrary to popular opinions provided by "other forum members" I think that you have provided enough info for us to get a feel of where you're headed.... So uh, check it out bro-tato...
Connect MIDI controller's MIDI OUT to MPC's MIDI IN.
Connect MPC's MIDI OUT to Proteus' MIDI IN.
Connect Proteus' MAIN AUDIO OUT (Left and Right for Stereo) to MPC's Record IN.
Now on the MPC make sure you go to MIXER MODE (Shift > PAD8), and press the INPUT TAB (F5). Turn the MPC's INPUT THRU to ON. And set the MODE to L, R, or ST... depending on if you're sound module's outputs are connected to the MPC's LEFT, RIGHT, or BOTH left AND right (stereo) inputs.
Think about what's happening with the signal flow, and it will help you understand routing. It's all very logical. You're controller is sending instructions to the MPC to trigger sounds in the Proteus. Therefore, when you start playing the controller's keys... your control is translating that into MIDI instructions that it will send to the MPC via its MIDI out port. The MPC receives the MIDI instructions (via MPC MIDI IN) from the controller, and outputs those instructions (via MIDI OUT) to the Proteus. Those MIDI instructions will trigger sounds within the Proteus as instructed. This all happens at the speed of light... so as soon as you strike a key on the controller, you're gonna hear the sound being generated by the Proteus.
Example: You hit the middle C key on the keyboard... the keyboard tells the MPC to trigger a middle C note... and the MPC sends that MIDI information to the Sound Module, and the Sound Module generates the specified sound, and outputs the audio to the MPC via the Sound Module's main audio outputs. The MPC then outputs the Module's sound thru it's MAIN OUTS and HEADPHONE Output so that you can hear it.
So maybe I'm going overboard... but once you understand this, you'll start to understand MIDI THRU. The fun never ends dude. If you got another sound module, say a Triton Rack, you could then make a MIDI link from the Proteus MIDI THRU port, to the Triton Rack's MIDI in. Set the Triton to MIDI channel 2, Put your MPC track to MIDI channel 2 and keep the Proteus on Channel 1... and you can now use your controller to trigger the Triton. You can daisy chain as many modules as you have channels using this method. Well... you're also limited by how many audio inputs you have... but you get the general idea... right? Anyways, good luck and hope I didn't confuse the shit out of you.
Oh shit, one more side note: As soon as you disconnect the MIDI cables you'll have no sound coming from the modules. The MPC is only recording MIDI info only at this point. So when you save your project and attempt to play it back later, you're not gonna hear your MIDI tracks, although the MIDI info still exists on the track and can be heard once you get your module hooked in. So with everything hooked up still, you can record your project into your DAW with all of the audio and MIDI working together in harmony. Or you can always go to MPC's RECORD MODE, hit play, and sample the MIDI tracks with audio, and assign them to MPC pads just as you would with any other sample.
