Tracking into logic 9 from MPC 1000

Hey, I'm trying to learn how to tack my beats into logic 9 from my mpc. Ive been looking all around the web for videos and forums but they dont quite work with my set-up and I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong.
I have a MIDI to USB cable for the in and out of my mpc and a M-audio Mobile Pre. In logic, under syncronization, Midi, I set it to usb midi cable. and then I am kind of lost from there on where to go. Also I don't have JJOS on my MPC, just the original settings. Any tips or pointers?! Please and thanks!

I'm guessing you want the midi from mpc into your daw?right? easy just plug usb-midi cable in. midi out from MPC1000 then usb part of cable into computer. or use a normal usb to get sequences(midi files) of you CF card or harddrive

try the audio outs of the mpc.

i'm guessing you want the audio from your mpc. the midi is only going to do you good if you want to use it to trigger something else later (vst, other gear, your mpc, etc).

you don't need midi sync to record into logic.

audio outs mpc -> audio in mobile pre. create a new audio track in logic. make sure it is receiving on the correct input. record enable that track, hit record in logic, then hit play on mpc.

You're going to want to sync the two of them because if you don't, then the tracks won't be aligned to the grid and you'll have to line them up manually.

Logic (at least version 8, I haven't used 9 and don't plan on it) is not very good at being the slave, so you'll probably want to set it to be the master and set the MPC up to be the slave. Details in your manuals.

Then all you gotta do is hook your MPC audio outs to your soundcard, solo the kick drum track on the MPC, create an audio track in Logic and set it up, and press record in Logic. Next, solo your snare drum and repeat...

ALWAYS track your beats out as individual tracks. And ALWAYS back up and archive those individual tracks, as well as the Logic files and MPC files. Trust me, losing beats happens, and it sucks. Especially when you get interest in an old one and you can't sell it because all you got left is the stereo mix.

Wow, I was just about to make a new thread to ask if this is possible. In my case, I use my MPC1k to sequence Battery 3 to lay down a rough drum track. I then string the sequences into songs, slave the MPC to my digital 8 track via midi and then lay down guitar and bass to those sequences.

What I would like to do is import the midi sequences (drums) into Logic for additional tweaking as I will also be dropping the guitar and bass audio tracks into Logic for mixing?

I'm not very well versed in Logic yet, but what you are saying is that I just need to open the sequence data from the MPC into Logic (drag and drop?) and it will recognize all of the midi data? Then I guess I would just open an instance of Battery 3 on that track, choose my kit and I should be good to go. Is that correct?

Just tried this out, and it was really easy to do. The only trick was figuring out to save the sequences midi files instead of .SEQ files. Nice!

doing exactly what 'mp3' said to do - it's working
except when I press play in Logic, the MPC sequence starts on the 2nd bar
when I solo a track + press record to dump it in Logic
while recording on screen, it doesn't start from the first bar in Logic for that matter either
shouldn't it be "syncing" from the very start of the bar(s) right when I press play or record?
I made sure the bpm is set the same

here are my settings... anybody ever encountered this problem? I don't wanna have to manually chop and line it up

That's the drawback to MTC. It takes a second to lock up, so there's a delay between when you start the master sequencer, and when the slave starts.

Try starting Logic from bar -1 or 0 instead of bar 1 (not sure that will work). Alternately, just record the mpc's output until you have enough (for example if you have an 8 bar sequence, then just record 15 bars and cut off the first 7).

I tried putting 2 empty bars in the beginning of the MPC and Logic and it's still not working

after a few bars the MPC says "RX Sync" and recording stops


I thought MTC was supposed to be accurate?

I can't be the first one trying to do this?

MTC is accurate. It just takes a minute to sync up.

RX=receiving

I'm confused? what does taking a while to sync up have to do with with the fact that it won't record at the right spot?
