so instead of a sound module, I should get a synth and learn how to program it?

cosmic just out of curiousity where did you learn that?

Get the MS-50 rack from roland. It haves that hoover sound.

"Hoovers" are detuned square waves and "Reeces" are detuned saw waves.

So You put a Square at for example C1 and Another square at .016 above or below, like someone said above. Reeces and hoovers sound similar, but the differences come through the most after you start to process them because of a bunch of technical stuff having to do with the waveform I don't understand.

ERR NO. Do not get MC-303 what ever you do, especuially if you have a MPC. The MC-303 is just a crappy ROMPLER, I know I had a few. yeah any virus synth is good but classic Tekno was of course all bout the Roland TB303. Totally not worth the money people ask nowadays, IMHO people are getting ripped off if theyspend more than a couple of hundred bucks, not a couple of thousand. It has 3 pole filter and so has quite a distinct sound and is fun to tweak, but no midi. I have had a few synths and the novation bass station does a good job of immitaion. Even has section in manual to make TB303 sound but close not real deal.

If it's hardware you want then the standards are Quasimidi Teknox or Rave Olution, Juno 2 as it has the standard chord function, Emu XL1/7, Roland JP8000 or 8080 (has a vocoder), Matrix 1000 or 6R, Nord, Virus....
However, any half decent synth that has PWM will create those sounds. Personally, I find the Kurzweil K series amazing for creating Dance textures but then so do many others.
