Can MPC import as separate tracks?

Okay this might get tough...

I import my tracks from my MPC 1000 (red and white cords out) to alesis audiomix 8 (basic mixer), then usb into my laptop (running Logic Pro 7).

I'm new to all softwares and hardwares.

When I import my beat, it mixes down all the tracks together. It's a pain...I want to be able to drop a snare or 1/8th bar of the sample or keyboard or slowly bring in the melody...etc.

I can't do that (easily at least) by controlling the MPC while recording.

Is there a way I can get my tracks on separate layers after recording the track from my MPC 1000 JJ OS to my Logic Pro 7?

I feel like it should be easy.

I did some research before posting and I feel like I need a better mixer, at least. Does that sound correct?

record each track into your computer seperately.

place a bar of snares at the beginning of each track so you can line them up correclty in your DAW or synch your mpc and DAW.

I guess your alesis mixer/interface should be able to record multichannel - but if you're just connecting the MPC main stereo outs to it then you're only sending it two channels (left and right) so that's all that the mixer sends to the computer

you could use the individual outs on the mpc as well as the main stereo outs, giving you four channels in total. use the MPC mixer page to send different tracks to each channel, then connect each to a separate channel of the mixer, then you should be able record four channels at once, so four separate tracks at once

yeah I just looked at the specs of your alesis - you shouldn't need a better mixer - the problem is that you're only using two outputs from the mpc, when you could use up to four

if you have more than four tracks, do as beack_break suggested and record some tracks, then record some more, then line them all up in logic

I used to do this with Audacity!
Another way to do the same thing without the snare is to turn the click off in Record and Play mode. It give you the 4 bar click, but no click when the beat starts playing.
