SND files?? I use omniflop to create 950 diskimages on PC but I never heard about SND from the 950 on PC

as of now i sample S950 into MPC3000 than mount the Zip on the Mac and convert that sound from SND ( MPC3000) to Wav .... that is OK , but i was looking for a way to get the
S950 SND sample straight out of S950 without resampling......?
guess its 12bit and that's why its impossible

midi sample dump is the solution but i don't know which software you gotta use to do that operation with the 950

anyone knows a way to do this (transfer samples via midi dump from pc to s950 and viceversa)
i've transferred some samples from my pc to my sp1200 via midi dump with awave v.10 but i don't know if is it possible also with the s950, never tried with this machine
the procedure infos (on the sp1200) are here

i've read in S950 that it is possible to initiate a MIDI Sample Dump but what should be on the MAc OS end to recieve the DUMP?

I don't have an Akai rack sampler yet, but am considering one to compliment my MPC4000 and MPC3000 combo.

Obviously the MPC4000 and S5000/6000 can both use Aksys software and .wav files which is a godsend.

The MPC3000 uses Akai's .snd format not .wav files , but then so do the S3000 samplers, the S3000XL looks decent.

I bought an Akai S1000/3000 sound library from some guy on eBay, about 100 original Akai floppies in total, hasnt arrived yet. mostly comprised of instruments with a few drum programs thrown into the deal.

Just wanted to ask our resident s-series experts a couple of quick questions...

1. Will an MPC3000 play Akai S1000/3000 programs (and vice-versa) whole or only load individual samples in .snd format?
2. Can a S5000/6000 load legacy S1000/3000 programs and then save them in native .wav format ?
3. Anyone benefit from using these two samplers (MPC4000/ S5/6000) with Aksys?


Not much info about compatibility between Akai S Series samplers and MPC's around here, but I'm leaning towards an S6000 with USB as a 'one size fits all' solution.

the mpc3000 will read s3000 SND, but not vice versa.

S5/6000 converts sound to WAV automatically as soon as it's loaded if you are dealing with e'oldie Akai or EMU disks

Personally coming from the older samplers I find the 3000 series quicker to work on than the 5k. The MPC-4000 already has a fully blown Z8 in there (woot woot ) so something like a 3200XL might be cool as the tone will be different.
Thing is S-5000's sell so cheap now days it would be wrong not to buy one! There was two on ebay that sold for 40 quid each! just a few weeks ago.
The sound of the 5/6000 is imo a lot better than the 3x series, the way the samples transpose across the keys just sounds nicer to me.
But believe it or not I find the big screen more awkward than than the small one!

If going for a 3000 series really opt for a 3200 or the 3200XL, for the prices they go for now days it really is worth it imo unless the 3000XL is fully loaded that is.
The filter board alone justifies the reason to buy one...FX may be a bit useless (did I mention they suck?! lol) but can come in handy and it's nice to have...

S5/6000 with the USB option at least but not seen any except a fully maxed S6000 went for GBP 400 last week!

The detachable screen would be use considering deskspace.

my s 5000 will be here tuesday can't wait! first akai rack I had in years also thinking about grabbing the cd3000xl for 140.00 around the way,just hate to see it sitting there looking at me like that

that's pretty expensive for the cd3000xl unless it's got some expansions. I got mine for about $100 with extra RAM

I've got a S950 ( great sound for drums / minimal memory) and MPC3000 ( great sound / timing/ swing/ no FX) ...
at the moment i am using NI Kontakt for keys....
BUT
looking to add a hardware sampler to have a selfcontained hardware setup
Goal: to be able to play
multitimbral parts like keys(rhodes, bass, piano, organs,synths, etc) from one Sampler
run by MPC3000 as a main sequencer...

need to be able to program or load Rhodes patches with multiple velocity switching samples for realistic rhodes sound...
Cannot decide between S5000/6000 or Z8 or even S3000/S3200 ....

witch one is the best allrounder in terms of programability / fx, sound, exchange with Mac/PC files ?
