This is just a rant cause I'm pissed. First off, I'm broke so when the next three albums im part of drop if i get sued well **** it cause i don['t have shit, Second of all music is my soul's expression in the light of inspiration, Meaning if i want, I'm gonna take your sample and flip to my liking, oh and i'm not asking, I'm just gonna do it, hell for those of you forum beat poster out there, if i can cut out a nice bass note or something off soundcloud or bandcamp account, then i'm taking that too. I mean i chop everything i never just loop bars, and i'm not taking anyone's beats, shit if someone wants to lift a sample off something i do then cool, that's modern music, i play keys and the guitar, if someone thought my work sounded good enough for them to wanna flip, then thats a compliment, odds are they are gonna sound totally different. The beat battles on here are perfect examples, we all get the same sample song, and in return we as listeners get ten different works of art, Thats like DaVinci saying you cant use the color red cause he already did...GTFO, The Grey album was apparently the most circulated album and 2004, would've sold millions, jay didn't care (he would've got paid) McCartney didn't care, but EMI blocked that shit.....The beatles were one of the first to sample old recordings on reel to reels..........

unless anybody is selling 100 of thousands of records it isnt a big deal, but god forbid u make a beat and it gets picked up by somebody thats on and it blows up. be prepared for shit like that. happens all the time. i sample, but if i was the original artist i wouldnt want somebody caking off some shit i done and havent been fully compensated for because of shady managers n shit. alot of those artist got jerked and took years to get what they where owed.

and rippin samples, drums, baselines or whatever from other hip hop producers is called BITING!!! cant compare that to a forum beat battle. thats more of a challenge/showcase on how to flip a sample. you cant flip a sample that somebody else found, that you jacked from they're creation or whatever and claimed you flipped it. you didnt take the time to find that shit, so how can that be valid?

Producer 1: "nice beat. i used that same loop on a beat i made.

Producer 2: "thanks man. i sampled it off of your beat you posted on myspace/soundclick/whatever. i flipped it huh?"

Producer 1: "really? so you didnt have to filter/timestretch/eq or any of that shit cause i already did it for you huh? you didnt even kno that i chopped it did you?"

Producer 2: "no i didnt kno you chopped it. doesnt sound like it. dude this is hip hop. you dont own no loops (or any other classic excuse)"

im only saying this because ive been sampling since 99 and ive never done this shit. although i kno plenty of people that has done it and still do it. no diss but i always thought that was kinda wack or even lazy in some cases.

im with you **** sample clearance! but as someone else posted above, you dont have to worry about it unless your selling hundreds of thousands of records. and if you are selling that many records, chances are you have a record label that is clearing that shit for you.

+1 on the never sampling from hip hop. shits wack. if you want to flip a sample from a beat you heard, then go get the original sample just like that dude did.

Yeah i didn't mean taking someone's loop or whole bassline, i was just trying to get a point across, but really sampling drums is how we all get are drums, unless you have a drum set in your spot or get your sounds from a one shot drum pack library you technically "bit" your drums of somebody.... my whole point is screw sample clearance

Just watch out. SAMPLE POLICE MONITOR THE FORUMS!

I even suspect they have some guys on the "inside" :|

Bah **** that and your rules, too many cunts thinks hip hop is sampling only from vinyl, using only original 45's, GTFO with that shit, It was pure coincidence that the pioneers used vinyl, because that was the popular medium at the time.

what bothers me is the money hungry non musicians the money goes to, i have no problem giving credit to the founders of soul and what not, and if i blew up i would give a respectfull percent to the artist but most of the time that money goes to dome dude in a suit that never met the artist and probally wants sara palin as president

if you get sued its a good thing. it means people are paying attention to what you do. and you cant get money out a dude with nothing. theyre not gonna come repo your shitty mpc and dirty polos. they can at most take the loot you made off of what you sampled. even if you made a sick joint generated alot of loot then got jerked for it all you would demonstrated you are capable of making more money in the future. you should be able to use this to further your success if youre not an idiot.

i was having a conversation about this today. there are well known artists on well known labels who are doing there thing and dont clear there samples. im not gonna go into the specifics of the conversation. but even dudes using very identifiable samples in a very identifiable way. dudes who we all resepct and would have no problem being as successful as. you really have to be selling ALOT OF MUSIC for it to be worht it for anyone to sue you. and nowadays nobody is selling alot of music.

sample what ever teh fug you want. nobody is gonna sue you for sht is most likely the case. like i said if you end up getting sued its as marlo would call it a good type of problem. if you like to sample, sample. if you like to play your shit out on the keys, do that. but make your joints how you want. dont let some kind of legal phobia change how you make music.

Elvis and the Rolling Stones never paid a dime to the original Blues artists that they got their songs from, and it was the norm at that time. But now because of Rap, they call it stealing, and its the same politicians that used to smoke up to that music in the 60's.

add Led Zeppelin to the very top of that list as well...
