and rippin samples, drums, baselines or whatever from other hip hop producers is called BITING!!! cant compare that to a forum beat battle. thats more of a challenge/showcase on how to flip a sample. you cant flip a sample that somebody else found, that you jacked from they're creation or whatever and claimed you flipped it. you didnt take the time to find that ****, so how can that be valid?

Producer 1: "nice beat. i used that same loop on a beat i made.

Producer 2: "thanks man. i sampled it off of your beat you posted on myspace/soundclick/whatever. i flipped it huh?"

Producer 1: "really? so you didnt have to filter/timestretch/eq or any of that **** cause i already did it for you huh? you didnt even kno that i chopped it did you?"

im only saying this because ive been sampling since 99 and ive never done this ****. although i kno plenty of people that has done it and still do it. no diss but i always thought that was kinda wack or even lazy in some cases.

Bah **** that and your rules, too many cunts thinks hip hop is sampling only from vinyl, using only original 45's, GTFO with that ****, It was pure coincidence that the pioneers used vinyl, because that was the popular medium at the time.

   ok. i never said anything about just sampling wax. im thinking your responding to the wrong thing but theres nothing you can say to justify biting.

drum kits n shit come a dime a dozen. not like rare loops but that depends on how you flip it. and theres plenty of links here where producers will sample drums and give them to you so you can use them for your creation, and thats all good if its what its there for. but i VERY rarely use them without manipulation. both can be manipulated with the same techniques. for some of us this could take hours even days to get it right where we want it because theres no one way to flip some shit. and for someone else to sample my shit, that i sampled and rightfully flipped before they even thought about it is BITING.

the shit aint limited to beats. you talkin "hip hop"? ok, what happens when a graffer bites another graffers tag? why do you think dj's cover up the label on the record? mc's dont walk up in other mc's house and just pick up there composition like "let me read your rhymes bro i wanna flip some shit"

people say all the time that hip hop is making something that aint hip hop yours or whatever. saying that, how can you take something that somebody already made hip hop, and claim it by taking from THERE creation, then trying to justify it by using hip hop as an excuse?

And your point is?

My point is that the purist mentality is misguided.
That is, I disagree that I can't sample from hip hop songs, the notion that I should only sample from a particular source and not from another is ridiculous.
Besides producers have been doing for ever, probably in your favorite songs, go check.

Graff only developed because people bit other people, and put their spin on it. Same With MCing, DJing etc..

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK4YB64XT0c

I cannot remember how many times Beastie Boys, Biggie (wavin the 44), Ultramagnetic etc have been sampled in other classic Hip Hop tracks.

So whats your point?

We could sit here and have a corny hip hop convo all day to argue pointless points. But imma say this. At the end of the day aint none of us promised a deal or a red cent for this shit, and if your really "hip hop" (god I hate that word) atleast you can have some dignity/integrity for what u do. When your gone that's what will separate you from everyone else. Sayin that, if u aint tryin to be a purist then wtf r u doin it for? I don't need youtube links and opinions from people who try to justify biting to define what I represent, or the work I've put in for me to talk how I'm talkin. Because I am a purist and I can back that shit up!!! I am hip hop and with everything its not wht u represent but how u represent it. Not sayin your not, but you need to push yourself a lil more creatively if that's how u get down.

And it aint about being good or whatever, because alot of bullshit is hip hop these days regardless of wht so called hip hoppers consider real hip hop.

Yes we could, but I think we essentially agree.
I am a purist, that's why I have an MPC, and 99%of what I do is from sampled vinyl.

I'm just saying, that doesn't make me 'Hip Hop', but if I sampled from a Hip Hop track that doesn't automatically make me 'Not Hip Hop' either.

Damn, half the reason I love this shit is because it doesn't come in a box...

something like this happened when I promoted my instru album

A - person
B - me

A: hey dude I like your beats but I got a question, how'd you get all those instruments on there?
B: I sampled them from records
A: So you didn't make it?
B: yeah I made it but I took parts from other songs
A: sounds like stealing

for this reason I've been going original because sampling feels lazy to me now. also don't feel like upholding some hip hop facade if its going to be based on taking from others

i feel you on the sampling feeling lazy thing. to be better you have to step outside that box and challenge yourself, but i dont agree with the sampling is stealing thing. most people who say that dont understand the science behind it or they still stuck off some shit that puffy did. just my opinion.

that is the thing too... some people dont get it. and a lot of people dont care what you did... as long as they know you snatched that snare from a record they formed their opinions already. (I dont agree, but you know the types of people I am talking about)

I think the whole issue is a situational thing, you cant just say something is biting when you haven't heard the thing... sampling is a very general and vague term and has infinite possibilities that simply is not such a black and white issue... (not talking about race for them smart dumb cats)

okay while I see the shame of sampling lets say... one of pete rock's drums off one of his albums.... what if you sampled a snare off the roots, something you heard on jimmy fallen? know what I mean? there is always gonna be those IF's and BUT's.

the roots doesn't steal anything, they have a drummer... so you would be stealing the sounds from a drummer.... which is done anyways... difference is that band is a hip hop band and not a soul or what ever band from back in the 70's.

also, the difference of stealing from a pawn shop is... the pawn shop no longer has the thing you stole.

Sampling Hip Hop has always been since its birth. Its nothing. How many albums have you heard with an excerpt of a well known rhyme used in a hook (use to be called chorus back then)?
