This thread is seeking forward to gather people around the subject of Good/efficient DAW-MPC 3000 combinations.
I've searched all over the place to find valuable info on how i should go about using my 3k in conjunction with my laptop (macbook pro) once i get it back (its currently being repaired at Forat's)... however, the info seems limited and i truly think it would be a good idea to gather it somewhere... could help a bunch of us..
in this post ill describe the questioning im going thru at the moment.. and the goal of this thread... after which ill post my silly questions...
The idea behind the thread is simple : mpc 3000s are kinda gettin' older... against them, modern ITB bedroom studios seem to offer a lot of possibilities...
so.. 3ks have something unique and will never fade in my very opinion... (and im sure most of u share it).. yet, sometimes, they seem less easy to integrate to nowadays musicians workflows (who are now evolving in a world where daws can (almost) emulate full fledged hardware studios)...
i thus wish us to gather a maximum of knowledge on the matter, so that it may help one to find the optimal spot for their akai 3k in a daw-inclusive environment.. amen.
now, this subject seems to be splittable in two sub-subjects.. audio and midi...
AUDIO?
As far as i'm concerned, ive read a lot about audio communication between the sampler and the computer, and there are very valuable threads about good and not so good interfaces and also about the more esoteric stuff, like those mpc-pad-and-programs editing applications for the computer... for these reasons, i won't add to that first sub-subject in this initial post...
however, if u wish to add to the conversation by sharing something quite interesting about the matter of audio transfer between 3k/daw (eg: using two zip drives effectively to go from cpu to mpc or something tricky and cool like that..) ur more then welcome!!
.... this being said.. let me now stress the fact that my main concerns are directed towards MIDI-related behaviour..
MIDI!
As far as the issue goes... I'm mainly concerned about MIDI-sync'ing problems described with certain DAWs... however... again, as i stated earlier, any valuable piece of information about DAW+3k workflow improvements is welcome, be it audio, physical configuration of workspace, mpc modification, etc...
Logic :
The issue i will address is somewhat of an isolated case (mine, im a conceited little ****)... however, i c it as an initial setting, that gave me the idea for this thread... and that may help to start the sharing about 3ks finding their place in modern environments...
Ever since im on a Mac, Ive been using Logic. According to a couple of sources, logic has a very ugly go at syncing with the mpc3000 midiwise.
Here's two threads on the subject :
/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=106571

I also watched sflogicninja's video on the subject... he didnt go quite into details... but heres the video anyways :

its mostly basic information between MTC vs Beat..
Heres another interesting thing i stumbled upon while searching...
http://www.innerclocksystems.com/New%20ICS%20Questions.html
but being so noobish i dont know how it may help me in a situation where i have an mpc3000 / a macbook pro / a firewire interface.
Again, Im really keen about the idea of an actually detailed thread about the subject and i feel its important that this type of knowledge is shared, in order to make that classic piece of equipment shine even in todays most modern ITB softstudios..
so if u have anything to share about your experience of 3k in the modern world... share it !
