flash rom-this is intereseting

Hi guys,
Started up the mpc, got the frozen screen, logo. I used the usb loader to load the OS, this appeared to be successfull in that I could load different OS 1.6 to 1.71, but still frozen screen. At this stage I thought, that's it. I reseated everything, then I took out the CMOS battery, to my disbelief it started!!, no battery in there. I put the old battery back in and it started perfectly. Now if the battery was not seated properly would this cause the flash rom failure. Out of interest if I now do the shift window at start up I still get the flash error, but on start up everything is good. What is the battery for anyway. Date/time has never let me set it, perhaps there is a bug here. Can others verify what they get when they do the shift-window operation on power up please. Gee I thoght this was it, maybe it still is imminent

If you look at my post i had and issue with the date and time. I took out the CMOS battery and still it would change. The battery is surrounded by a neat plastic/metal enclosure..not like it was seated incorrectly. I think it's a software bug. Whew i thought i was the only one with the time and date issue. I was think ing of reinstalling software to see if that would fix it but i see you have done that

Yes kevtech, I read your post, that's what gave me the idea to jiggle with the battery. It still does not explain the flash rom issue. It5 could be that I've rectified something while moving the circuit board with the cmos batt. in it. can you do a shft-window seq while on power up and tell me what it says?

There's an OS Update Addendum somewhere (I forget which one) where I persauded Akai to list what data is stored in the Flash RAM, what is in the CMOS SRAM, what is part of a multi etc.
