i think jj might make some good money making a LIVE PERFORMANCE os. base it off os2xl, use the same PGM format, keep midi in/out as it will be in os2xl2 and go from there. emphasis on live looping of pad performance and incoming audio.

as it stands os2xl is boobies for studio work, but a leetle limited for live use. a LIVEOS would be badass.

the liveOS is a great idea! &mp3 support too.

JJ LiveOS as an included XL option would be really great.

for the MP3 compatibility, I guess it would be painful for 2 reasons:

1) MP3 encoder stuff is $$, this is not open source stuff
2) MP3 is a compressed format that needs to be uncompressed to be edited, or at least needs CPU to be read with the encoder stuff...

so that would be CPU painful for the mpc to handle mp3s

I guess, If, really, mp3 has to be implemented, that would be through a mp3=>wav feature that would not be used live, but only as an "off-line" converter in the mpc, and you still would have to deal with WAVs at the end...

upgrade ramp up is an impossible illusion.

work on mp3 is the only real possibility of putting several hours of audio in 128 mgs for a live performance.

The MPC can't handle MP3 data in realtime. It would be possible though to render the mp3's into wav, but i can't see the point in that!

multitimbral control of filters would be killer!

The first thing JJ released before creating the JJ OS was a tool to read MP3 in the MPC no?
I can't remember well but I guess if someone dig the forum he will find the right information.

You could always use an external MP3 player.

You're definitely not going to get 32 notes of polyphony if the MPC is playing MP3s.

4GB no... but disk streaming is a possibility... I'd see that as being a more likely feature request, and could suit the streaming long audio request as well...

How about an option to lock region length in trim mode - Basically lock start and end points (and loop point if its enabled) so that the region (and loop region) stays the same length. In other words when you adjust the start point, the end point also moves (and same for the loop point).
