technics turntable question

i have the sl1200 black. my question is: when i have my speakers off and listen to the music coming directly from the table, is that sound effected by the rca outputs at all? i have been having a problem with weird distortion/vocal cancellation from different records and wanted to know if the rcas are to blame. thanks

try to invert the cables position in the speaker where you hear this phase cancellation

I dont understand what you are talkin about. You got your speakers OFF and wonder why the sound you hear (from the needle) is distorted??

yeah, that sound (speakers off) from the table has the same distortion/cancellation problem as the table when the speakers are on.

so, is the sound directly from the needle effected in any way by the rca outputs?

i am trying to narrow my problem down and i feel that if the sound from the needle has the same problem as when i connect the rcas could i rule out that my rca outputs are the problem in this set up.

are you using a mixer? (you haven't mentioned one)

when you say "sound from the table" do you mean the sound of the needle tracking through the groove, the really quiet sound you hear if you put your head next to the needle?!?!
that sound is not affected by the rca outputs, that's the sound of dragging the stylus across the record

if that's not what you mean, wtf are you talking about? "speakers off" ... what speakers? technics turntables don't have speakers, so you must be plugging into something else ... do you have a mixer between your turntable and your speakers?

I think he is really talking about that sound cause it sounds like a phase cancelation (thin, without bass a bit distorted).

Ok. So to give an answer: The sound you hear without any amplification and speaker has not much to do with the sound you get from the RCA thru the amp and speakers. Youi cant compare and you wont hear phase cancellation by listening without speakers. I doubt there is way that this signal can have a phaseproblem (ok if the music on the record already have a phase problem caused by a stupid recording engineer then it could probably be)

if you're not using a mixer, or a phono preamp, or an amplifier with a dedicated PHONO input, then you will get a weak, distorted output
