Noise of MPC 60mkII

I got a MPC 60mkII and ik makes a silent mid frequency tone, coming out of the unit itself. (not speakers).
Sounds like the tone you hear when you pick up the phone but no one is on the other line.
Its a pretty silent tone, not annoying but you can hear it.

I was wondering if that is normal, or am I the only one who has this problem ?


(I got no earth plug on the plug of the power cable anymore because I had to break it off for my 220/240 volt adapter, maybe thats why...??)

What's wrong, can't you be bothered to fit a new plug?

Might be an idea to eliminate obvious faults before you begin trouble-shooting?

Then come back and tell us whether the 60 has always been that way or the noise recently started...etc, etc

one thing I don't understand with that though is the 60I has no earth because the attached cable is just 2 plug on the end

I had to break it off otherwise the plug wouldn't fit into my 220/240 volt adapter because I live in Holland.

Well I'm guessing the unit was grounded for a reason.

Are you not supposed to be using a power transformer or something, you might blow her up!

Thats what the 220/240 volt adapter is. It transforms the electricity from 220/240V to 120V.

I'm pretty sure the sound you describe is coming from the BACKLIGHT INVERTER and/or from the display EL-FOIL.

If the noise you hear is a high pitch, then it is either the backlight foil or inverter resonating.

If the noise you hear is a low pitch hum, then it is a grounding issue. I know on my 3000 if the internal zip drive is not screwed down completely, it will create a hum. Make sure everything is screwed down tight inside your MPC, sometimes these screws will work their way out over time.

Breaking off the ground (earth) pin and using equipment without grounding protection is a very dangerous thing to do.
If your plug didn't fit the power adapter, then you bought the wrong adapter.

I suggest you replace the plug and obtain a power adapter that accepts an earth prong before you electrocute yourself or someone else.

Pilchard is right. Just check the back of your unit and look where the power cable goes. Pull it out and look if the unit has 2 or 3 pins that connect to the cable.

2 pins = no earth -> you can use the current cable
3 pins = earthed -> buy a new grounded power cable.

I know, but its strange that the mpc 60mkI hasn't got a earth plug at all and the guy from the store where I bought the adapter told me that it wouldn't matter, and he was right cause it works.

I think all MPC's (mpc 60's at least) make a silent sound.

My 60 Mk1 has a silent tone coming from the backlight inverter also.
I built a new, 5v to 100v, inverter and replaced the old one in hope of getting rid of the resonance tone but the new gives away a similar sound. I was not worth it.

My best solution was to decrease the vibrations transfered to the MPC chassi by putting a damping material between the inverter circuit board and where it is screwed.

Just coz it works doesn't mean it's right,you still should never break off an earth pin just to get something plugged in. but I take your point, if you have a detachable mains cord the has only two conductors then the appliance obviously isn't earthed.
My MPC60 has a captive mains cord that has an earth conductor Which obviously differs from yours.
