Why is Automap such a piece of trash software?

It's just ridiculous that a piece of software that was put in place to "Simplify" things could be so damn convoluted and full of bullshit. Never, ever going to use this again. Does anyone have a good experience with this shit?

yeah I am not a huge fan of what it does. they should have simply built their controllers the way everybody does using midi over usb or even put on midi outputs which a lot of the controllers dont have and that results in you having no choice but to use automap.

honestly, the only thing I thought was cool was the ability to change the button modes from note on to on/off and all that stuff, and also making several templates that you can flip though is sort of a nice idea too.

I don't think its bad, I think its too complicated. Fundamentally I also think they didn't implement the concept well either. Because it does nothing to make software feel like hardware. It makes plugins harder to use, not easier. Its just another (albeit adaptable control surface hardware) interface to learn to replace an interface (the plugin or software GUI) you've already learned.

The main problem is that anything with 24 knobs/sliders, 32 buttons and 8 pads is gonna have a hard time controlling a piece of software with hundreds or even thousands of parameters.

It has been Years since I had this much frustration with any piece of software. Anybody want to buy a Nocturn for cheap?

with the nocturn, what program are you using?

it is fairly simple once you see what exactly automap is doing. the advantage is the "pages" because you could then assign several different button templates on to each of the pages and scroll through them live.


essentially you begin by picking a midi channel, then each button you choose a midi CC number... and you can choose to have the button momentary, on/off, or what ever. so essentially you would look at automap as the controller, and that is what you are linking in your daw.

Bah. I'm done with it, more trouble than it's worth. Just a studio piece, all I use live is the MPC and Kaoss Pad, no need for these "Pages". I went from being able to Right Click assign parameters in Massive, to not being able to even get this thing to function correctly. I'm NOT the smartest guy in the room, but shit shouldn't be this difficult.

yeah well the more shit you got on the chain, the more shit that could get messed up.

honestly, I can see how it could be useful because I see the idea behind it... especially when using several pluggins or things that require triggering... but the mpc and chaoss pad combo is still got that edge.
