Introducing M-Audio Venom

I'm not really too familiar with M-Audio gear, for the most part, outside of having used maybe one of their controllers before. Anyway, they unveiled the new "guess the product" product. I haven't developed an opinion yet. I'll have to hear and see more. I'm just passing on more new products.

After reading some more and seeing more, I'm likely not interested. Maybe others will be.

Looks dope. I kinda like the idea of sampled waveforms. I hope the filter algorithm is good.

This definitely caught my interest today.

It's an awesome synthesizer. The only drawback I see, is you need Pro-Tools in order to run it. It would make sense at the price point.

If you read just below the first paragraph, you sill see where it says...

* Requires Pro Tools M-Powered 8 or higher.

that asterisk refers to the audio interface feature, i.e. you need Pro Tools to use it as an audio interface

I think it works as a synth without Pro Tools

You can even use Venom as an audio interface with Pro Tools M-Powered* and other music software—forming a powerful production machine to take your music in dangerous new directions.
* Requires Pro Tools M-Powered 8 or higher.

in fact, it's pretty obvious that you need Pro Tools M-Powered to use it with Pro Tools M-Powered!

Edit: and reading it again .. it says "and other music software" so maybe even the interface feature doesn't need Pro Tools M-p ... you only need Pro Tools M-p to use it with Pro Tools M-p (well ... yeah!)

Yes, that make sense now! If you can use it as a stand-alone, I would dig it. It turned me off for that reason only. Looks like one robust instrument otherwise.

My bro does M-Audio testing for Torq and he went to the M-Audio office last week and got to play around with the Venom.

It's saying that it can be used with any DAW as a 24bit/44.1kHz audio interface and general MIDI controller, including any "flavor" of Pro Tools that doesn't use DSP cards (the inteface part isn't supported, here). The Pro Tools MP bit is saying that versions of MP below 8 are not supported by it's drivers. I don't use MP but it says ASIO, MME and CoreAudio which means Avid Pro Tools 9 and other DAWs can use it.

If they put this in a rack and tossed the audio inputs and stuff, I'd probably grab one.

I read somewhere that MAudio may have licensed creamware / plugiator's emulator software for this.

Well he doesnt make beats so his input doesnt weigh much.

He just DJ's

But creamware synths don't use sampled oscillators, to my knowledge.

this look really really interesting. i sold all my synths, just doing all mpc + vinyl now, but seriuosly considering this for that agressive sound.
