I am planning on (finally) switching over to the JJOS from Akai.... I have been using the Akai OS on my 1K for a little over a year now and want to switch because chopping samples in that OS is simply very slow... I have heard that the JJOS will take care of those kinds of problems.... My questions is... where do I start.. I know where I can go to purchase the new passwords, I just dont know if I need to go with 1 or 2 or whatever... Please hit me back and let me know.. do I need to start out with the (no-shit) very 1st version? Or go straight to to the new joints? Thanks alot fam.

No one can really tell you which JJOS is the right one for you as they are all a little different in functionality. Carefully read over the comparison chart found on JJ's website, or better yet, download and try each of them out before you spend all your hard earned cash.

My experience was jumping straight into 2XL and I have no regrets about not using any of the other OS's. Just know that any JJOS is better than the Akai OS and you're making the right decision no matter which one you go for.

With respect to sample chopping, you will want either OS2 or OS2XL. Those ones have non-destructive chopping (NDC).

OS2XL costs $123 and you only save $15 if you buy OS2 instead, so you might as well go for the gusto... OS2XL is still actively being developed, OS2 is not (except for bug fixes).

If you want to use midi to it's fullest potential on the MPC dive straight into JJOS2XL.The chopping features are quite different than the AKAI OS. I feel the non destructive chop is only good for
quick chopping and not precise at all.You are better off copying a sample(for back up) and using divide and conquer. You will see once you have used OS2XL for a while.Hope this helps.TYPO

Certainly not true.

Well that's a matter of opinion, but quick chopping is exactly what the OP is looking for....

Certainly not true.

Please explain how going into divide sample and setting cross fades is not more precise and faster. In
my opinion NDC is the same as other (LIVE FEATURES).For the OP You can chop faster.Precision varies

Good looking... All very helpful. Can I get the OS2XL without first copping the OS1 and 2? Just jump right into the OS2XL? Once again.. thanks for the help.

Yes, you can. Probably the best bang for your buck too as you can downgrade to the other OS's as well. Also, JJ randomly does price increases soooo....something to think about.

NDC can be as precise as you want it to be. The only real drawback to it IMO is you can't use cross fade looping with the slices.

There is no difference in precision between the two chopping methods. You made the assertion, so yours is the burden of proof.

Again, faster is a matter of preference and working style. If NDC chopping is slower for you, then perhaps you're doing something wrong? Or perhaps you're trying to do what's more suitable for destructive chopping. They are two different chopping methods designed differently.

The beauty is, if you get os2xl, you can do both! whatever fits your needs, style, or project.

Glad I read this. I thought all versions were still being updated, I was going to buy OS1. I might as well get OS2XL for future proofing.
