MPC 2000 naming files (new to the mpc!)

Hi,

I am attempting to chop a 4 bar drum loop into 16 pieces using the zone edit function located in the 'trim' page. I am calculating the math myself and entering the digits. Each time I attempt to save a 'zone' I am told the name is already in use. No matter what I change the name to, I get the same response... "name already in use". This cannot be possible. I can't continue chopping until I get past this!

This may seem like a funny one but I'm hoping for some help out there. Thanks in advance!

Just out of curiosity, what are some names you have tried?

They should be less than 8 characters. This means that you really only have 6 characters to work if you are naming them xxxxxxNN where x is letters and N is numbers 0-16.

I've tried everything from changing one letter of the name given, to changing every letter, letters and numbers, numbers only!

I should note. When I am in the ZN EDIT, after changing my St. and End, I am pressing "EDIT" to "SAVE NEW SAMPLE".

Sound right, but I'm still curious what names you are trying.

Give me an example you tried, and then also try the name 'mpc1'.

You are changing the name AFTER you hit 'SAVE NEW SAMPLE', yea? Using the open window button?

Really, break it down step by step, button press by button press (from main screen), because it does indeed sound strange and so my first thought is just user error/confusion. It's possible but also unlikely that your mpc is just 'busted' like that.

As you (and I) suspected, the problem was a user error. I figured it out and it was a very stupid mistake.

In the TRIM page I was using the ZN Edit. I picked my start and end points then hit EDIT, I named the file and hit DO IT. I chose a wide variety of names which ended up not being the issue. Before hitting DO IT, I needed to hit ENTER to "Commit".

That was the problem... I wasn't hitting ENTER.

Sorry for the stupidity on my part! Thanks for your help. I will be back as I am new to music making all together, not just the MPC 2000.

Not your fault IMO. Its a common "problem" for new MPC user. Its one of the things that make me wonder bout the OS. Why did they do this? always need to hit enter... Could be so easy. Enter name and hit DOIT, but they made it complicate.

It's funny that you had that problem. Someone else on here had the same issue and I simply pointed out that you MUST press ENTER or it won't accept it lol. Not pressing the ENTER button will drive anyone crazy if they haven't figured that out lol.

Thanks for making me feel better about myself! Now... time to give Kev Brown a run for his money! ha!
