MPC Editor/ MPC 60!

I have a question about transferring snd. files and pgm. files to the MPC 60 using Windows XP. I downloaded the 30 day trial version of the MPC Editor V.3 and don't think I can use it now. I have the 3.1 OS on my MPC 60. The problem is, after I format a disk in the 60 and put it in my PC; the computer wants to format the disk when I try to tranfer the sounds and program (that I created on MPC Editor) to my floppy disk. Is there any way around this?

There is a way around: Don't use XP.

Win9x, Me, NT had no problems reading or writing to MPC60/3000 disks. Microsoft broke this in Win2k and XP. I believe this is in the Editor documentation.

There is a `fix` of sorts but it is not publicly available at this moment.

One other thing to try is to use something like Connectrix and run a virtual session of Win9x inside a window in XP. I know several that do this.

Yeah it did mentioned it in the editor documentation. My comprehension skills are on a fourth grade level...hehe. Anyways, I appreciate your help. Damn XP!..haha.

The problem is with the 720 format of the disk XP doesn't allow this. I am using an MPC 60II with OS 3.1. I format the 720 disk on a Windows NT system and then save the .snd files and .pgm file created by MPC editor to disk . The MP not only reads it but it will map the pads. If you adjust the output setting of a pad make sure you adjust the decay or it will be too punchy. As for the 3000 it should work even better because Win XP will allow you to format a disk as a 1.44.

Thanks, this is good to know. I had actually written the Editor for the MPC3000. It just happen to be usable by the MPC60 OS3.1 since it reads the MPC3000 format. All was well until Microshaft released XP.

cool...I got it working now...I bought some 720k dd disks and the transfer from the 98 Windows to the 60 is flawless. Thanks!

Make sure you get the latest update on the MPC Editor. Mike was kind enough to look into a problem I was having loading large programs into my mpc 60 3.10, and fixed it!

I just purchased it about a week and a half ago. When was the last time you recieved the update from him?

About that time, you need to install the regular version, then install the update in the folder you installed the MPC editor.

You can merge a .reg file that updates xp/2000 registry that disables Xp's 'auto wreck the disk header' .

I installed it and XP stopped breaking all my mpc60's disks and now itsall good.

How to keep windows from damaging the MPC format Zip disks or other Removable mediums.

Windows likes to write in the disk OEM field to track them (MS KB). This also happens to be the same location that the MPC uses to determine if it is an MPC disk or not. There is a way to keep windows from writing in this field and it is set under `NoVoltrack`. It is as simple as making a registry entry like this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NoVolTrack]

"MPC-60"=hex:03,00,4d,50,43,36,30,20,20

I know it says MPC-60, but that is the filesystem that the MPC3000 uses. I imagine the MPC60 would be the same.

Computer will need to be restarted before this will take effect.



The entry for MPC2000 will look like this:

This registry file can be extracted and imported into the Windows registry that makes the above entries.

Note: This does not apply to MPC2000XL, MPC4000 or the MPC1000.
