I am thinking of switching out my 2500 for a 1000 for the sole purpose of portability, and saving space in my ever shrinking studio. Do I need a lobotomy for even considering this? I know the differences between the two machines with JJOS are only physical things, more outs, bigger pads, cd drive. But is it worth giving up the 2500 to have something ultra portable, and save some room? Or should I get rid of one of my arms instead. Hopefully I can get some MPC1000 folk to give me their opinion on the matter. Has anyone here done a downgrade like this?

Would it kill you to just be patient and save up some loot to get a 1000 straight up? That way you can keep the 2500 as your studio piece and have the 1000 for remote use. Get the best of both worlds. My advice, never sacrifice a perfectly good MPC for a lesser one, you'll regret it later.

Thanks for all the kind reply's folks, I appreciate it. It is definitely a decision that needs careful consideration.
Ocular, thanks for putting it like that. You're right it, would definitely not kill me, I think I am being a little impatient maybe.

I like what Ocular stated also. You have to ask yourself are the form factor items that you will be losing important to your work flow? I use a 2500 and I don't need it to be portable. I had a 1000 for a minute and side by side, I don't see the 1000 as a lesser MPC. It had JJOS on it and I started to like the 1000. But I sold it because I didn't see the need for the pair of them. Buying a 1000 and keeping the 2500 still doesn't solve your space issue. But if you can afford them both and can make a little more space - I can see some possibilities!!

I definitely hear what you're saying there krush777. If I were to get one, It would probably be a better idea to pick one up on ebay, rather than brand new, and hold onto my 2500.
I just saw I really nice one go on ebay for a decent price. I haven't been on ebay for a while. I didn't realize there were so many 1000's being sold!

Thinking about it, I wonder if Akai will be coming out with a new model any time soon. I was looking at the time line of MPC's and it seems they are due to come out with a new MPC. Maybe something about the size of the 1000, and pads, and tilted screen of the 2500. How dope would that be... However, unless a serious OS upgrade is in line, I don't see it stacking up to the JJOS.

No disrespect to the 1000, I am a happy 1000 user myself but compared to the 2500 spec wise the 1000 is the lesser of the two.

The space you would be saving with a 1000 is negligible. I often find that the issue with space has more to do with the work desk(s) than the actual hardware. Something as simple as building a riser to place your speakers or monitor on, or installing an under desk slide out keyboard tray can work wonders in work desk space saving. And as far as the concern about the 1000 adding to the clutter, just stow it away and only bring it out when you're on the go.

Anythings possible but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath for it.

I'm definitely thinking about picking one of these 1000's up in addition to my setup now. Only question is new or used. I see some really nice used prices going on with these units but I am always a little hesitant of buying things off of Ebay.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a MPC1000. I will be keeping my 2500 as well. I figure one can never own enough MPC's. :D :D :D . I can't wait to get this little beauty. Now I have to get JJOS again, absolutely worth it though.
