Converting Old 60 SET Files to 3000 files.

Ok, I know the 3000 may probably do this, but I know the 60 does it, and the 3000 reads 60 files, but some fles I have had my 60 not be able to load, saying it was made on newer software (I rock 3.10e, hello???) So I'm gonna start researching how to accomplish this in the best way possible.

I am interested in finding Software (mac or PC) that may read it, and also any approach to salvaging damaged disks.

I will most likely be working with disk images from the originals so as to not risk damaging them. Most likely copied from the image to a new 720K disk for loading in the 60. I am not sure if I will encounter any problems, but I want to be prepared. Also, if anything is damaged beyond my reach, commercial data recovery would be a great option) Mike, don't youdo MPC data recovery? I may need your services, and I won't be looking for a discount

Anyone loaded old 60 files (set, PGM, or whatever they were called) into a 3000?

awave or translator maybe? i know with awave u can convert some akai progs.

I got a MPC-2000xl maybe like 4 years back and still never found a solution for that message.
D*mn I glad somebody else has seen it.
I have Translator, Awave and some other stuff as well.
I just had to give up on the Programs/SET files and use the samples to make new setups.

Also remember the Roger Linn update came with some sounds and a conversion utility disk that you had to load into your MPC to use old 60 SET files, did you try that?

Actually, you can load old files into and upgraded 60 just fine, then save them in the new format which loads into the 3000 just fine apparently. I have some disks which I converted to 3.10 60 format and I will try to load them into the 3000 and see what happens.

Maybe we are seeing different problems.
My Problem has been loading the programs created on the upgraded 60II into the 2000xl.
When I had the classic MPC2000 I hadn't upgraded the MPC60II yet so it was still using the old "SET" structure.
All I can tell you is that the MPC2000xl studio that I have won't load the programs created from the upgraded MPC60II.
I lost intrest and just stopped trying.

Yeah, that wasn't my problem, but if you load it into an upgraded 60 you export a 3000 compatible file, which you may be able to load into the 2000 or into the mPC editor and export as a 2000 file

Yeah that was where my problems with the upgraded MPC60II began, since I share samples with alot of different samplers I got tired of all the extra work.
The SP-1200 is worst since Alchemy is still probably the best to use with it so that means keeping an older Mac around just for that.
Not hating on the 60 just slows me down some time.

Try applying a piece of tape over the hole at the lower right corner of your floppy. Load the sounds, then re-save onto another disk.

Dre, I don't know if you're talking to me or elmacaco, but if you're talking to me it's a 60 with SCSI so the problem is with floppies or ZIPs.

that trick is old, but do you mean the 3000 will load set files?

MPC3000 machines load *.SET files from old OS MPC60's with no real issues of concern.

MPC3000 machines save files as *.PGM and *.SND combinations that are V3.0 OS compatible and can be read ( size allowing ) by an MPC60 with the latest RLINN design OS.

My old MPC60 factory disks from years ago loaded fine into my MPC3000.

Nothing more necessary. I can either do it at my Friend's place or at home. Probably at home, or both.

He said he had trouble loading some, so I hope the disks are not damaged. Maybe the 60 will be better at loading old 60 files, they are probably the same. hopefully it is just that his Disk drive was dirty (and it was).
