alternatives to zip drive?

hi,

I live in Europe and iomega doesn't distribute scsi zip drives in Europe anymore. Are there any alternatives? For instance, could I get an external smartmedia card reader or something to work with the mpc?

Could buy one on ebay.. check out a SCSI Harddrive, or a Jaz ZIP/Harddrive.. or possibly a CD-ROM.

If its an XL, you can install a standard IDE zip drive internal - I have a tutorial on the site showing you how. A SCSI hard drive also works - smartmedia may work as well I think.

Yes. You can install a drive that lets you use digital camera memory wich is cheap and does not fail you because theres no mechanical wear...

a scsi hard drive is no option because I have the non-XL mpc2000, and if I'm not mistaking this does not support using directories (not on normal disks anyway).
anyone tried smartmedia or something? because I don't want to order one and spend money unless I'm certain it works...

You can't use directories, but you can partition the drive into many smaller areas - each partition can have up to 500 files. The 2000 supports this.

but where will I find a scsi 1 (or is it 2?) hard disk these days?
I'm also looking for one for my dps12, the jazz drive broke a couple of days ago...

For the best prices check Ebay, other than that, you can still buy SCSI hard drives at computer stores.
