I believe korg had a tape echo too no? anyways the thing I like is the ability to move the heads around and that...
upkeep is not too great though but at least a bit better if you have a splice kit.

Another cool thing you can do is make your own slapback delay echo using traditional reel to reel units.

I second that! Wow, that looks great. The $300 price tag is kind of killing me though. I may have to stick with my Space Echo and Carbon Copy for now, but it definitely goes on my "if I win the lotto" list. It's a shame they didn't put a stereo input in it like the Boss pedal though.
