Okay, MPC5000 has been way too flakey today. Got to the point where it wouldn't output audio in program mode. I re-initialised the unit (power on holding down ERASE) and noticed only 64MB memory was showing. Took out the memory upgrade and put it back in, pushing down really well, switched back on and so far, all seems fine.
I assume the chip wasn't seated properly. So, people having ongoing issues - try removing the 128MB memory chip and see if that solves your problems (give it a decent run about to make sure) - if it does, replace the chip and make sure it's well pushed in. If the problems return, this most likely suggests your memory is faulty.
This isn't going to fix actual software bugs, but it may address any issues related to audio playback.
