Seriously... You have a Akai MPC-4000, and presumably other recording equipments, can't you just start making music? you have EVERYTHING you need to start making music (MPC-4000 is even capable of making professional sonic quality recordings)! Equipment wise, you are more than ready...

Facts:
Wu-Tang Clan's first album was done on RZA's Tascam 4-track MTR (yes, cassette)
Madlib uses headphone as a microphone sometimes.
Jay Dilla started music production with a 4-track cassette MTR and turntable.
Havoc (Mobb Deep) started making beat with a boom box, by recording radio(!) playing song (with breaks)
Kev Brown makes great music with his MPC-2000XL and other "obsolete" and cheap (like Numark portable record player!) gear.

Biz Markie makes the music with his mouth.

aint that just like the newb kids nowadays... start with all the expensive equipment, without having skill 1st.... try looping beats on cassette tapes for a few years first, move up to some crappy turntables, speand 5 years rhyming first, then maybe youll have the skill/heart to do it right.. you cant buy skills, there refined by your LACK of equipment.

Sort of old but my question is, would there be a way to put an ethernet card in the MPC to make the innanet feel warmer?

replying to original post:

all that equipment would be spectacular, but to be honest i know you have a computer cause you wouldn't be able to post on here w/o one so what i would suggest is download full free version of fl studio 9xxl and get a cheap mic.

if you stay with it and start to love doing it, then i would suggest getting more equipment.

Hi everyone, I'm new to both the whole MPC scene and music production in general. However I have recently been offered an MPC500 for £200, and I couldn't really say no to be honest.

My question is though, is it possible to teach myself how to use this through trial and error and just playing with the thing, is there much else I would require? The whole idea of sampling and creating beats intrigues me; I have a turntable as well as load of 12" and 7" records and often take a little wander around the local charity shops to see if they have anything interesting going for cheap.

Ta, Dave.

after giving this question more thought all this isnt enough to start rapping and producing...some brain activity is also required which seem to be absent atm or just left the building after all that equipment arrived.

Pretty soon software and hardware will be obsolete. We'll be able to make beats with our brain wave patterns. You'll laugh at your grandfathers for using an iPad. Had a dream with some unheard dope music? Just remember it when you wake up and record it to your BrainDAW. Its that simple.
