Midi controller assignments

I've got an MPD24 and want to assign the midi controllers so that i can use the sliders and knobs to control the softsynth effects.

Right now all the sliders are changing the volume and all the knobs are changing the pan left / right but i want to assign each knob and each slider to its own midi controller how does the MPD24 do this?

Cubase 4 LE

I'm trying to set the knobs to Absynth 4

in battery 3 there is just a thing that says "learn" next to the midi note assignments, it looks like this

c1/c1 [learn] and when you click on a cell in battery and you click learn, then you hit a pad or a slider on your controller, it maps it to that pad.

since battery and absynth are made by the same company, im sure it will have something like that on it.
