For me...it forces me to use my PC for internet and email..and gives me a hardware workstation that is more than capable....

People have been saying software is the future over a decade. But products like the Kronos and the Motif XF are the future. I can see future workstations with larger flash ram capacity and/or larger solid state drives packed with gigabytes of samples ready to be played. Think of Kontakt 4 within a keyboard designed specifically for it with no or minimal load time. This is much better than Kontakt with a generic controller that doesn't give you full access to the software. *Note - an MPC with this capability would also be nice.

thats cool, except those things you mentioned shouldn't be the future.... because those things aren't the future.... they are the present. why wait for features like those when we already have them? well some of us dont. This future you just described sounds more like catching up because all it involves are computer components with higher specs and not a single thing exclusive to hardware...

the thing is, maybe these keyboards are the future for you... I hope things like this are the future too but we both know the casual market cant be ignored anymore. it sucks but you know how that shit works.

well what sucks is, what I wish the future would be and what will likely be the outcome are two different things.

I think it would be sweet to have something simple and not too multi tasking... something like the older mpc models but with analogue filters (something not on DAWs, but exclusive to hardware) but with more sample time maybe using non volatile ram... built in that obviously would be a good solid sequencer like the mpc line has.

basically i am okay with the types of things we have but the issue I have is the parts are getting old, worn out, and hard to replace.

that is where reissues come in. you see what classic companies like moog and dave smith are up to... that to me is where I think hardware can not be "out-spec-ed".

but the reality is, companies are aiming for the casual musicians. look at akai korg, and who ever else with these cheap quality but extremely affordable products. I have a feeling that is the direction things will go in because the few guys who aren't doing that are the small dudes.

I will give these all in one boxes something though... live use you look less like a jack ass playing those then a laptop.

I was actually shopping the M3 and Fantom G myself. I do want to consolidate and get more streamlined. I am really into hardware. Software will work it way into my set up eventually. So I am going to follow the Kronos to see if it is "the future".

From being around all these forums, it seems the consensus is more features not less.

Analog filters...I don't see any company wanting to create an analog workstation on par with the Fantom's, Motif's, M3's, etc. That would significantly increase the price....as most analog gear is hand built. Regardless, what you are suggesting is not the future. While you may not be excited about the latest workstations..for those that use them...its a big deal. We have Motif XF...now the Kronos...and Fantom G owners are waiting for Roland to wake the hell up and either release a software update or an upgraded model. The excitement is there....

read my post, I said it was not likely to be the road companies take... I was pointing out the genre of things I think would be nice. I started out my post with:

F**k all the jibber jabb'n. It all boils down to skills and most folks know that. Every year companies will put out something that can almost suck you off and many will rave and have numerous discussions about it (as we can see).

But the reality of all this is...if you're lacking gear and you're in need of something cutting edge, you can buy into whatever floats your boat and makes you happy.

But once again, it's all in ones skills and no one piece of equipment ain't gonna make that happen for anybody. Folks need to step their game up if you feel that (and this goes for old/use gear as well) having the latest and greatest will get your work out there and be accepted by the masses.

I'd rather put out some heat using my 20 year old xyz keyboard rather than trying to keep up with the Jones & impress the many nobody's that could care less what you have or what you're working with.

But if there's a feature or two that I can say I don't have and would like to have coming from whatever is cutting edge, then I'll consider buying into it.

Just stressing my point of view from the sidelines here...no bashing on anybody unless someone feels like I stepped on their shoe or something.

Getting back to the topic at hand....

@mr_debauch,

I did read your post. I am really unsure what you are trying to debate.

Obviously, there is room for both hardware and software products. Yet, you basically imply that companies are taking the wrong direction. Korg and Yamaha created workstations with features never before realized in hardware. You mentioned that some of those features are already possible with computer and software. However, there is no software available on the market that duplicates what you get with a hardware workstation (NI is hard at work trying to duplicate this though)...a self-contained product, stability, dedicated controller, no latency, etc. These are the things that matter most to me. I like a dedicated instrument not a computer trying to imitate a dedicated instrument. This is what you seem to be overlooking. Why do you think the market is flooded with all these cheap controllers?

apparently you really are unsure, since I wasn't even debating.

latency in computer programs is ON YOU... that is your fault, build your computer right, get the right components and that is factored out. dedicated controller this and that... what ever. point is, while a product like the kronos is nice to have all that in one package....

it mirrors too many things I already can do, so I will be saving 3k to spend on something EXCLUSIVE to hardware.... and I am not talking about a computer packaged in a keyboard shell.

So..the Kronos mirrors to many things you can already do? Refresh my memory...Such as what? Do you even own a hardware workstation? I am also curious the know the EXCLUSIVE to hardware stuff you intend to spend your money on.

The fact it, it mirrors too many things that a lot of people in this forum have including myself. But if I have to choose between a PC, sound card, software sampler, and MIDI controller or picking up a workstation like the Kronos...I will take the workstation every time and I have for years (Motif, Triton Studio, Fantom X/G, ASR10). I am not hesitating to replace my Fantom G with Kronos. It appears to do nearly everything the Fantom does and more.

Also, get out of here with the latency and my fault BS. Computers will always have latency.

Some nice pics of Kronos at Namm:

Rome, you brought up a good point there buddy. I've always been curious about the mufucca's around here that portray they know it all, don't have the smack to back it up, and seem to be the masters of deception.

That's why I want the noobs to know that you can't buy into some of the BS that's being sprinkled about around these forums, 'cause these clowns have one agenda in mind and seem to be on some kind of TROLL mission or something.

NOTE: Just take note of this fake mufucca who seems to be all over these boards trying to increase his/her post counts. They've got fraud written all over their azz. Y'all know who I'm talking about. And I'm just waiting for this a**hole to confront me about who this just might be.

Ok, I just checked out the Kronos through the pics Jahrome posted and can say I'm very impressed with what I see. I doubt if I'd jump on this as soon as it's available but I can say I'm interested in checking it out at some point after its release.

This could be the next workstation that'll revolutionize the music industry if it's cut out to be what they say it is. Come to think of it, I haven't invested in a decent keyboard in some years now.

Kinda been on the module tip for a minute, but it's about time to work something new & worthwhile into the mix about now.

We'll see...

Edit: Oh, and before I forget...our trolling friend should be hitting the boards at some point in the wee hours of the morning, y'all see what I'm talking about.

dabmeister, shut your own trolling mouth you idiot.

you can certainly tell with how dated all of your music sounds. OKAY one song was cool back when you for some reason called me out yet when checking your page at the time every single one of your tracks was the same exact thing.

again, you wanna try and be suggestively vague... well guess what, I will say it again. you got something specific to say towards me then say it. You are behind a computer screen anyways, I aint gonna smack you one.

Otherwise, shut your mouth... you wanna suggest somebody is this and "our friend that" .... you choking on your words or something? Last time you made a thread in my name nobody knew what your problem was and then nobody saw a post by you in a good month.

Mufucca, you don't want no parts of me. I'll put your a$$ out there and your non playing bs as well. Yeah, I don't like your a$$ and I'll let you know what I feel about how you swamp these boards with your petty a$$ bull crap.

And this time I ain't drunk or high b*t*h. Now post something else like you're bucking back at me or something.

Oh, and one more thing, get it out of mind that you're my equal. I eats up corn balls like you dude...ain't no way in hell you can outplay me regardless of what genre of music you do. I'll eat yo a$$ alive dude and you know it, so get with the program slim.
