Used wrong voltage on converter mpc shut off

Hi guys,

This is my first post and sadly it's not one I'm happy to be making. I purchased a mpc 60ii from the states and got a step down converter for it since I am in Australia and we use 220-240V here. Unfortunately due to my inexperience with converters I thought I had to switch the converter to 220v for it to be stepped down to 110V. The mpc powered up with only the screen coming on for no more than 2-3 seconds before it shut down. There was noise but no smoke, sparks or smells coming for the actual mpc. There was however a hissing sound like when you have a bad electrical connection. The converter did die, and smelled of burnt plastic which it still does I am just wondering if I have blown any fuss on the mpc since there didn't seem to be any of the mentioned issues. I am going to try and get a new converter for so I can test it out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. I always come here first if I'm looking for answers. 1: Where about in Australia are you located ?
2: What brand and type of step down converter is the one you are describing ?

The MPC60II if correctly fused will probably have suffered nothing more than a blown mains filter board fuse.

A bit of further investigation required.

I'm located in Victoria, and it was just a crappy converter I got from hong kong (generic) on ebay. Is there any way someone without any knowledge of fuses at all can identify if they're dealing with a blown fuse?. Are there any tutorials available on how to replace these things if it is indeed a fuse?.

yeah I know, I am hoping it's just a few fuses and a new converter at this point.

Thanks guy, nearly there. I've decided to get a new transformer and open it up and see if there are any fuses that need replacing and if all else fails I'll try to catch up with Rohan and have him have a look at it for me. Thanks again

Primary mains filter board fuse toasted.

A correct step down transformer and replacement fuse should put things right again.
