If you had a choice between getting...

an s950 or theOS 3.10 upgrade for the 60, what would it be? Input would be appreciated...

If you are familiar with the features that the upgrade provides from the Roger Linn Design site... its really self explanitory. Why get another machine when you can make your MPC 10x's better. The question really becomes tho.... What are YOU hoping to gain from the s950. If getting the s950 adds a feature to your setup that you really really need and the MPC cant do it... then hey go for it. I really had nothing to gain from gettin it. One main thing for me was with the s950 you are forced to use floppies 3.10 upgrade will give you the option to add SCSI to the MPC... and then you are on a whole different level of the game as far as storage is concerned. I wouldnt even buy a 60 another unless it had 3.10 SCSI and the memory upgrade. Thats just me tho.

cost me alot to upgrade my 60 myself,SCSI is expensive, but worth it id say...

Looks like the s950 if you can find one with SCSI will allow you to use removable media/HD's as well. Timestretch I would rather do on a computer. I dont know how long it takes on the 950 but... Some of those machines can take damn near 12 hrs to timestrech certain samples. Im cool on that one jack. LOL. Oh yeah BTW the 3.10 upgrade allows you to get the MPC Editor and transfer files to and from a computer. That being said having filters on the 60 would be nice. A fully upgraded 60 gives you 52 secs of sampling time (using compression) Thats plenty enough for me.

Good lookin' out jrides and fobafied...One reason I was leaning toward the upgrade is because being that I'm not the most technical person the transition from 2.12 to 3.10 wouldnt be that hard..Which brings me to another question, how is the s950's ease of use? And can it read 60 disks/files? Also, if the s950 has the standard 750k how much sampling time is that?

on the s950 im not sure in seconds of sampling time, oh thats another thing the sampling rate is "continuously variable" meaning that you can select your sample rate for each individual sample, the lower the sampling rate the less memory is used...

a full expanded 60 is only 2/3 the memory of a fully expanded 950, and the 60 is set at one sampling rate, no variables are available...

s950 read MPC60 disks? No.. S950 you have to lay out the samples on a keymap. It is a bit more time intensive than doing it on the 60.

Seeing as you already have the 60 (i'm assuming you do - I doubt you would buy just the OS with no 60!) I would definitely say the OS. I will explain why later unless what you have heard already justifies it.

I got both...the s950 for 125.00 and the upgrade for 140.00

I guess that's ok, but you missed out on something.
You got the O.S. but you still have to kick the loot for the SCSI.
You are only half way there.
I would have passed on the S-950 and went with the O.S. and the SCSI.

I couldnt turn that down right now.
