Can the MPC play samples at different pitches up and down ke

Hi. Noob question, sorry!
I just picked up an MPC1000 - excellent kit. However, please can someone let me know if it can 'behave' like a normal sampler i.e. to play a particular sample at different pitches up and down the keyboard scale? All I have been able to achieve so far, is to put different samples on different keys. I realise that this is the main purpose of MPC's but just wondered whether what I have asked, is possible?

No need to go into how to do it (unless you want to!!) - I just need to know if it's possible and if so, I'll do some homework on it.

Yes, just read the fabulous manual, particularly the bits about adjusting the pitch of a sample

if you download the PDF version of the manual from akaipro.com then you can use the search function to find every reference to "pitch" in the manual

the most straightforward way to do it is using the "16 levels" function

You should buy the JJOS he has this feature (instrument program)and many other features that make
the 1000 much more like a sampler.

Thanks for your replies - now I know it's there, I'll do some research through the manual (I did have a look before, but didn't make the connection that '16 levels' is this feature.)

I have been thinking about the JJOS too. I take it that it's generally a stable platform now? When I checked, there was something like 38 pages in the 'bug report' part of the JJOS section

jjos is a MUST!

that bug report thread has been going for more than 8 years! that's why there are a lot of pages

most of the bugs have been fixed - that's one reason why people like JJOS - bug reports are listened to and bugs get fixed in new updates

Cheers again for the replies. I am now running JJOS2XL (but only a demo) to see how it goes.
As far as the actual Akai OS goes (I realize this part of the forum is for this and not JJ), I was able to use '16 levels' to adjust the pitch (and quite a few other nice tricks too )

16 levels is one way to do it, another is to map out the sample across the pads and adjust the pitch of each one. The advantage is u get more than 16...
