Can u connect a MANDALA DRUM to MPC1000???

Hi, does anyone know if u can connect the Mandala Drum to an MPC1000 as its uses USB for computer connection but MPC1000 also has USB.

I am thinking of this possibility in my head to use this:

1. First hook the Mandala drum up to your Mac or PC...
2. Grab the sample/sounds you want from the program provided...
3. Then dump those sounds into your MPC...
4. Then plug the Mandala drum into your MPC via USB port and midi it via say Roland TMC 6 or other midi brain...

Anyone? anyone?

I am a live drummer currently running x3 Roland PD8 trigger pads, Roland TMC 6 Midi Converter, Roland FS-5U footswitch ha just another "i must add on" to my creation.

think that part of the plan is flawed, maybe you'd have to plug the drum into mac/PC Thru a DAW or standalone midi program then midi out of your Mac/PC to the MPC?

the usb port on the mpc is only for transfering files, the mpc acts as a usb mass storage device when connected to a usb host

the mpc doesn't support midi (or anything else) over usb

I dont use nowadays tech in my studio but isnt there some midi to usb convertor or something? That would probally solve this guys problem.

you would still need something to act as a usb host - the mpc is a peripheral (i.e. slave) device to a usb host (i.e. master) and from the look of it, so is the mandala (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_ ... s#Overview for details)

I don't think USB-to-MIDI converters include a USB host, they just plug in to a host

you need something (i.e. a laptop) in the middle, to receive midi over usb from the mandala, and then send midi to the mpc's MIDI IN

sadly, that will NOT be possible, since no MIDI passes thru the MPC's USB port, neither in or out.

you gotta plug the mandala stuff via usb to the computer, and the mpc via midi to the computer, and have something (DAW, midi translator / midi tool...) in the computer that will make the 2 units communicate the way you want.

Not big on trying laptop live especially playing gigs with super quick changeovers etc.

My current setup is super quick and easy stored in a custom built case with my MPC, x3 PD8 pads, Roland TMC6 Midi with Eurorack mixer and built in DI etc so wanna have a similar approach than laptop that is quick and ready to go in minutes.

well after more investigating looks like i'll have to hunt high and low for the original one ie V.1 as it comes with a brain whereas the new 2.0 is brainless and requires Laptop etc!
