i always had my eye on this thing... when i get a new PC i might JUST might have to cop one...

my main question is still hasn't been answered clearly... does this thing need a host??? or can it just be played stand alone.

also this thing is made by NI... so can it host NI VST while operating as a stand lone application?

Nah you need a host.

Well seeing as it doesn't work standalone, it obviously doesn't host VSTs.

Move along now, nothing to see here...

Actually you can play it I'm standalone and use vst plugins in windows. I use a Mac so I have au plugins. Most users on macs though make up a beat in standalone as au plugs on Mac don't send midi. Then save the project and reopen inside logic 9 and either drag and drop the midi or audio patterns into the DAW.

Or if you wish but I not sure with the beta (1.5 native you can) resample the beat within maschine like a mpc in standalone mode.

Yeah the resampling features are still the same. Regarding MIDI, you still can't drag MIDI patterns into Maschine. NI said they have to change the whole structure to add it, but it sounded like they do intend to implement it at some point.

I'm running the standalone on Windows and the VST implementation is fantastic. It automaps the controls as best it can to Maschine's knobs, on third party plugins too, not just NI's stuff. Maschine's FX are by far it's weakest point, I'm really looking forward to use higher quality effects. Maschine's second biggest shortcoming is it's multisampled instruments, with access to all my synths and modules, problem solved. Tonight I might see if it can load a hardware editor VST (Fantom G), that's a question I haven't seen answered definitively.

I wish more companies realized what NI and JJ know, give the people what they ask for and they will support you.

What do you mean you need a host? Well a PC maybe, but thats it  Guys clearly dont know shit about the maschine.

The real answer: Yes it works as a standalone and yes in the next update it can host vsts itself.

just confirming what alot of people are saying......this maschine 1.6 is a game changer! i did my first REAL 1.6 beat and the automap in novation's 49 slmkII along with ni's will give you ideas of deleting logic and pt9 and making space for ew symphonic voices or somthing to offset the loss. the TOTAL PACKAGE has landed.......and i already own a SSD!
