Problems fomating CF Cards for use w/ Win 7 and 2000XL

my prob:

Im using MPC2000xl w/ CF reader and Win 7.

I have been using MPC Editor's MPC/XP formater to format my CF cards for years with no probs. But now the format options are greyed out and i cant access them.

I think it's because of the OEMID protection? In MPC Editor, I click on the option 'Disk OEMID Protection' and it say it'll write a new registry entry that will fix the prob, and I have to restart before it takes effect. So I restart. And It doesn't change anything. The XP/MPC format is still greyed out. I've tried it a few times with different disks and... nothing

I've tried to format the cards in my PC but it gives an error message. They work fine in the MPC in MPC format but then I can't transfer sounds.

I noticed on MPC Editor's website that it doesn't list Win 7 OS. The rest of MPC Editor works fine. Does the XP/MPC format not work on Win 7? I got a new PC lately but the disks were still working for a while, so I didn't notice any probs til now.

I've searched for answers but haven't been able to find anything on it. Anyone experience this kinda thing before?

I'm not sure how to do it on 7, but if you can figure out how to format a card as fat16, sometimes just called 'fat', you should be ok.

You can probably google 'fat16 format windows 7' or something to that effect.

I've done some initial searching and it could be a bit tricky to figure it out.

I think I've heard people saying FAT32 works, but I've personally always used straight up FAT.

I have never managed to get MPC Editor to work fully on Windows 7.
I think the problem might be that. like me, you have a 64bit version of windows that is incompatible with the current version of MPC Editor.
The only hope is that the author, Mike , who sometimes comes to these boards, will one day update it.
Meanwhile I keep an old XP machine to run MPC Editor amongst other things.

thanks guys! i will look in to FAT formatting, and in the meantime i still have a laptop running XP, so i at least i have that.

FYI:

I found out that if i format the SD cards in Win XP (using MPC editor's Win/MPC format option), than i can use thoses cards in Win 7, and still use MPC Editor to create my Prgs and Export them to to SD Card.
