Cannot record a sample from turntable, what gives?!?!

That's a puzzling one.
I can't reproduce your problem here.

The only thing I can suggest is to re-install the OS and see if that solves the problem.

Ok I solved it. My memory card was full. Smh sorry bout that. My next question is the mpc says I have 16 mb installed when I start it up, but I have a 32 mb card inserted. Why is this?

You can't put 32mb memory into an MPC1000.
It only takes 128mb memory.
Are you confusing your card with your Ram?

The card is for storage.
The Ram is temporary memory that holds what you are working on while the machine is switched on.


Edit. Ah yeah I see what you have done. The card is different from the memory. Your 16mb memory is internal in the machine. You can upgrade it by opening the hatch on the underside of the casing.
Your card can be anything up to 2gb (or some people say more)

No that isn't the ram.

The card is for you to save your work on to as you make it and befoore you shut down the machine.
Just like on a computer, you have to save work before you turn it off.

Yes it would. Upgrading the ram would give you nearly 12 minutes of stereo sample time.
But really, if you keep your samples concise, you should be ok with the stock 16mb for a while.
Most people upgrade eventually though.

Of course, why din't I think of that. (it's actually your ram thats full).
Either you already recorded long or many samples o,r the mpc is set to auto load a folder , maybe on the BONUS TRACK card.
Check if the AUTOLOAD is set and if so turn it off.

How do I check that?

MODE > PAD2- LOAD > highlight the LOAD FROM field > press the WINDOW button > Change AUTOLOAD to off.

done, what does that do again? frees up space on the ram?

It's gonna be one long thread of "dumb questions" if you don't make the effort to digest the information on those pages. Either that or Pilchard will stop spoon-feeding you the obvious at some point...

The AUTOLOAD automatically loads a collection of sounds (probably from the internal Flash ram) when you boot up the machine. This is so if you have a set of sounds you use all the time (for instance) They will be loaded ready for you when you start the mpc. I think these are in a folder called "AUTOLOAD" but I could be wrong.
By turning this off you will save space on your 16mb for the samples YOU want on there.
The internal sounds cannot be erased but they can be overwritten if you want to change them.
