Is it worth it fixing my Beyer Dynamic DT770 headphones

I have never soldered in my life. Checking out the Polar Audio website (Beyer Dynamic in the UK) Non warranty fees are £15 to check the sucker out, £25 labour charge (doesn't include the parts and I imagine the wire will be around £20) and it's a total of £15 to return them! That's £75! I paid around that to buy them! Is it really worth it?

What other headphones are there?

I've got some old broken Beyer headphones that I should probably consign to the bin, but they've got a sound that's really distinctive so I don't know whether to get them patched up...

Shredding the chord with the vacuum didn't help matters either.
